Introducing Jatie, our in-house powerhouse - a true star!

If you’re a regular at Bethnal Green, you’ll probably recognise Jatie. She can be found teaching full body recovery and hips pancake classes, but she also graces us with her smiling face behind the desk to welcome people into the space.

A ballet and contemporary dancer by trade, Jatie came to teaching as a rebellion against the government calling for people in the performing arts to retrain during COVID, deciding to use her skills to pay her bills instead.

Her favourite spot in the local area is the Gallery Cafe where you’ll find her in the garden in summer, or cosying up inside in the winter.

Introducing our in-house bendy-wendy who can get you limber if your willing to commit. 😈

If you’re a regular to Waking Dreams, then you’ll have almost certainly encountered Jules, our sweet, smiling, incomprehensibly bendy mobility teacher. Don’t let the sweetness deceive you though, as soon as those double doors to the strength studio close, you’re in for it. Her
background of being a professional in karate soon comes through with her rigorous precision and attention to detail.

Her favourite spot in the neighbourhood is a market classic, Saray Broadway Café. There’s always a nonna making gözleme in the window, and you’ll find Jules smashing back an omelette and chips for a big protein hit.

You’ll find Joel teaching soft acro at Bethnal Green on a Friday morning. It often starts slow and sleepy, but before you know it you’re upside down and feeling like you’ve had an espresso. Adept in gymnastics, martial arts and tricking, his classes draw on all of these modalities to create building blocks to move, learn and lean into different shapes and directions.

Much like his teaching, his practice explores the edges of tricking as an art form or a language, more interested in its creativity and beauty than the competitive aspects of the modality as a sport. His ambition is not to be the greatest tricker in the world, just the best version of himself and the best mover he can be.

His favourite place in the neighbourhood is Bellucci’s because he really likes breakfast. Anytime.

Recovery. Is. NOT. Optional.

Recovery is the most misunderstood category in the studio. Not because people do not know it exists, but because it is the first thing dropped when life gets busy or is easily pushed to the side in pursuit of faster results.

Actually, our brilliant Anna Jimenez has just released a short film on the hidden struggles within her training journey. It’s a powerful account that just might resonate.

Recovery.. let’s break it down

When you train, you create a controlled stress in the body. The adaptation from that training (the strength gain, the skill consolidation, the increased range of motion) happens afterwards, during rest.

If you train without adequate recovery that signal keeps going out without being received. More volume without recovery does not produce more results. It produces more fatigue on top of incomplete adaptation.

The students making the fastest progress are not training the hardest. They are training hard and recovering well.

Anna is the sweetest, ray of sunshine…until you don’t do the drill properly. As one of the Cali Kulture coaches at Waking Dreams, Anna is a cheerleader and a taskmaster simultaneously.

Her reps classes are no joke (especially on leg day, iykyk) and you’ll find her delivering half of her handstand instructions upside down.

Her favourite spot in the neighbourhood is London Fields. She’ll either be catching some alone time on the grass, hanging out with some friends or meeting new people at the workout bars.

Anna’s also got one spot left on her handstands and mobility retreat in Spain from 28th of September – 1st of October. DM her for more info!

Zoe is one of our yin teachers at Waking Dreams, but she’s been coming to the studio for much longer than she’s been teaching here. Never short of something to say, she’s the embodiment of what her practice preaches; busy until she comes to the mat, then calm, focussed and soft.

Koya is her favourite place to grab a bit along the market, but she also loves the quiet down by the canal watching the constant stream of people by the water.
