Today was one of those days that stays with you long after the clinic lights go off.
So many patients carrying the invisible weight of chronic pain. Each with their own story, fears, resilience, and quiet battles.
As healthcare professionals, we learn the science, the treatments, and the protocols… but no one really teaches you how not to feel every journey deeply. And honestly, I’m not sure I’d want to stop caring that much.
Behind every diagnosis is a human being trying to hold onto normality, hope, and dignity. Today reminded me how important empathy is in healing, even when we can’t immediately take the pain away.
I often laugh with my patients and tell them I’m not the healthiest person in the world either, even though, with medical knowledge, you’d think I should be. But that’s how life is, we’re all human, and maybe that’s why I can understand chronic pain not only professionally, but emotionally too.
Today I had a really meaningful conversation with a patient about how quickly life passes, and how important it is to enjoy every moment despite everything we carry.
Pain changes many things, but it also reminds us not to postpone living, loving, laughing, and appreciating the people around us.
To everyone living with chronic pain: I see your strength, even on the days you feel exhausted by it.
