As we approach the end of World Breastfeeding week, where the theme is: 'Step up for Breastfeeding: Educate and Support', It was an honour to co-deliver one of 's infamous (and always free) Breastfeeding antenatal classes. It was great to see so many parents to be and birth partners take time out of their Sunday morning to prepare for one of the most challenging but important tasks they will ever do.
It took me an age to find a picture of myself breastfeeding at least one of my children, and then I realised that that wasn't really something I would have taken a picture of, and that's ok. But I found this amazing one of my daughter in absolute awe of me feeding her baby sister. I remember she was fascinated that my body could create this magical milk which would keep her baby sister happy and alive. And I realised that this was her first education in breastfeeding, seeing her mother do it, at home. Now she also saw my winces and heard my yelps when it wasn't quite going well, when the latch wasn't quite right, and I was very conscious to not give her or my eldest daughter a negative impression of breastfeeding. Because there are definitely highs and lows with breastfeeding, even for experienced feeders. But I've loved being able to do this for all of my children, and I love being able to support others to do the same. Happy breastfeeding week, and well done to us all, you made it another day!
