Should fungal Nails Be treated?

Onychomycosis is not just a cosmetic problem. If left untreated, it can gradually worsen, spread to other nails or surrounding skin, and in some people lead to complications such as pain, recurrent infection, or cellulitis. This is especially important for people with diabetes or poorer circulation.

Age Without Limits Day – 10th June 2026 🌟
This year, we're using the power of questions to challenge ageism. Phrases like “stuck in their ways” or “time to slow down” may seem harmless—but over time, they can limit confidence, opportunities, and how we see ourselves.

An Ageism Day message about footcare should challenge the harmful stereotype that foot pain is a "normal part of getting older". Instead, it should empower older adults to prioritize their mobility, dignity, and independence by seeking proper foot care, which is vital for fall prevention and active living.

⚠️ Corn plasters are not always harmless!
This patient came in with severe pain from a corn on the 5th toe after using an acid-based corn plaster. While these products are designed to soften hard skin, they can also burn and damage the healthy surrounding skin — especially on small toes where the skin is delicate.
After careful debridement, cleansing, and protective dressing, the patient experienced almost immediate pain relief 🙌
👣 Professional foot care is always the safest option when dealing with painful corns, hard skin, or pressure lesions. Treating the cause — such as footwear pressure and friction — is just as important as removing the corn itself.
Please avoid cutting corns yourself or overusing acid treatments, particularly if you have diabetes, poor circulation, or sensitive skin.
