This time, the residents at Hugh Myddelton House decided to take their dart game outdoors. 🎯 They enjoyed a nice cup of tea ☕ while playing games together, followed by a lovely chat and some relaxing time in the sunshine.
It was a wonderful afternoon filled with laughter, friendly competition, and good company. 💛

🎶 A Morning of Music Hall Memories 🎭
We enjoyed another fascinating morning at Hugh Myddelton House as our regular historian, Colin, took us on a trip back in time to the wonderful world of music hall.
Colin shared stories about how music hall began and became such a much-loved form of entertainment, bringing laughter, music and variety to audiences across the country.
We heard about some of the famous stars of the day, including Charlie Chaplin and Sir George Robey, and discovered more about the performers who helped make music hall such a success.
There was plenty to talk about afterwards, with our residents’ sharing memories and enjoying a good chat about the music and entertainment they remember.

👧🧒💛 Having the children here is always one of our favourite times of the month!
Anna and her wonderful group of children visit us every month to spend some special time with our residents. This time, we welcomed some new faces, while some of the children we’ve gotten to know have now started school. It’s lovely to see them growing! 🥰
The children enjoyed exploring the home and had lots of fun trying out our new reminiscence station on Memory Lane. They then spent time with our residents, singing and playing some of their favourite songs. 🎶❤️
Their visits always bring so much joy, laughter and smiles to our home. Thank you, Anna, and all the children, for another very special visit. We look forward to seeing you all again soon! 🌟

Since 2012, Silver Sunday has been a national celebration of older people. It is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate together, have fun, meet new people, try new activities, visit new places, and connect with different generations.🍂🍁
We had a fantastic day yesterday at Hugh Myddelton House, filled with singing, laughter, and great music from the wonderful Rebecca. It was lovely to see everyone coming together, enjoying themselves, and creating special memories.
Our talented Chef Christ created a special menu to celebrate Silver Sunday, and it was enjoyed by our wonderful residents and their family members. ❤️
After enjoying some lovely live music, everyone gathered together for a delicious lunch and a fantastic afternoon filled with good food, great company, and happy moments. 🎶🍽️😊

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day so special! 💜🎶

🌳 Trip to Trent Park
Yesterday afternoon, we enjoyed a lovely trip out to the beautiful Trent Country Park
Trent Park is a historic 320-hectare country park and estate in Cockfosters, London. Its history dates back to the 14th century, when it formed part of the royal hunting grounds of Enfield Chase.
The estate also has a special connection with Middlesex University. Until 2012, Trent Park House of Secrets House and the surrounding buildings were home to the university’s campus, which included departments covering performing arts, teacher education, humanities, product design and engineering, television production, biological sciences, and the Flood Hazard Research Centre.
For one of our residents, Andrea, the visit was particularly special. Andrea studied at Middlesex University and became very emotional seeing her former university again after so many years. Seeing the place brought back wonderful memories of her student days.
Andrea said:
💬 “I had a wonderful day today coming to Trent Park and seeing my university again after so many years. It brought back so many happy memories of my student years.”
It was a lovely afternoon filled with beautiful scenery, history, and precious memories. ❤️🌿

For September, we are delighted to nominate Francis Avala from our Kitchen Team as Employee of the Month.
Francis is a very hardworking and kind person who is loved by both his colleagues and, especially, our residents. His ability to make a nice joke and greet everyone with a smile makes him a very special person to those around him.
Francis is always calm, kind, and supportive, even when the kitchen is under pressure and extremely busy. He is also very involved in Life Enrichment activities and enjoys spending time chatting with residents and making special memories with them.
His kindness, positive attitude, and dedication make a real difference to our team and our residents.
Thank you, Francis, for your kindness, hard work, and for always bringing a smile to everyone’s day. You truly deserve to be our Star of the Month! 🌟

🌸☕ An Afternoon Tea in the Garden ☕🌸
Yesterday afternoon, we had a fantastic time enjoying an afternoon tea in the garden at HM Garden. It was lovely to spend time together with our General Manager, staff, residents, and relatives.
Over tea and cake, we had some wonderful conversations about our garden. Our residents are so happy to spend time in their beautiful garden, especially as we are all very proud of winning a Gold Medal in Enfield in Bloom! 🥇🌺
One of the main topics of our conversation was the “Tell Barchester” Residents, Families & Friends Survey. Our General Manager shared information about the survey and reminded everyone that it is still open. She also encouraged residents, relatives, and friends to share their feedback and let us know their thoughts and experiences.
And, of course, the weather was very kind to us! 🌞 It was a beautiful afternoon to sit outside, enjoy the sunshine, and have a chat together.
As Jean always says, “This is not typical British weather!” 😄🇬🇧
But we were all very happy to enjoy the sunshine! 🌞🌷☕

👰 Resident Celebrates Granddaughter’s Wedding Blessing 🤵

The team at Derham House Care Home in were delighted to help one of their much-loved residents, June, enjoy a very special day when she attended her granddaughter’s wedding blessing at St Helen & St Giles Church in Rainham, surrounded by family and friends.

June was delighted to witness such an important milestone in her granddaughter’s life and to share in the joy of the occasion.
Following the service, the celebrations continued back at Derham House, where family and friends gathered for a reception.

June, who recently turned 89, commented: “I have had such a marvellous day, my granddaughter, Keeley, looks absolutely beautiful, I am over the moon for her and Daniel, they are such a gorgeous couple. It has been fantastic to celebrate with them and have all my family together.”

What an unforgettable day for all involved! 👏

From 6th to 12th July, residents, patients, families, friends and colleagues across the country will be getting active as part of Get Barchester Moving Week 2026 – a fun-filled week of movement and fundraising in support of Barchester's Charitable Foundation.

There’ll be something for everyone – from gentle exercises and dance sessions to sponsored walks, live entertainment and more – all designed to put the ‘fun’ into fundraising while promoting movement and wellbeing.

The Foundation helps older people and those living with disabilities stay connected to their local communities.

⭐ Waterside Court Donates £1,000 to Cycling Charity ⭐

Waterside Court Care Home in recently presented Cycling Without Age with a cheque for £1,000 to support their wonderful contribution in enriching the lives of care home residents and the wider Wallingford community.

Cycling Without Age in Wallingford offers free trishaw rides to residents of care homes and day centres and for elderly local residents, helping to combat loneliness and social isolation.

The grant has been awarded on behalf of Barchester's Charitable Foundation.

Mike Heath MBE, Operations Manager, said, “The donation is very much welcomed and appreciated and will be a huge help in continuing our contribution to the wellbeing and enjoyment of Wallingford residents.”

Heather, a resident at the home, shared, “Going through Wallingford Town Centre and waving out to people I know, makes my day. We feel very much part of the community.” 👏

Hafan Y Coed Care Home in passed a recent Care Inspectorate Wales inspection with ‘Excellent’ ratings - the best possible ratings – across the board, after being praised for operating a safe, well-maintained, caring and well-led service.

The report stated that there was a strong sense of community and teamwork in the home nurtured by a very well-respected management team who promote choice, independence and positive wellbeing outcomes for their residents.

A relative commented: “They go over and above what’s required. It’s the thoughtful little things, you don’t need to ask, they just do it.”

Our COO, Natasha Lazovic, visited Hafan Y Coed to congratulate the team on the home’s Excellent ratings and award every member of staff a £500 voucher to celebrate their achievement. She shared: “Hafan Y Coed is a fantastic home delivering exceptional care to its residents, I couldn’t be prouder of General Manager, Sarah, and every single member of staff here. I am delighted to be here today to congratulate everyone personally, meet the residents and chat to the team about their wonderful work.”

⭐ Elgar Court Wins Prestigious Award ⭐

We’re happy to share that Elgar Court Care Home in has scooped the Best Residential Care Home Award for 2026 in Worcestershire. The home has been chosen out of a number of care homes across Worcestershire.

Elgar Court is a luxury residential care home and opened in July 2023. The care home offers bespoke person-centred residential and dementia care, and is set against the beautiful backdrop of the Malvern Hills – the town which was voted in 2026 as the best place to live in the Midlands.

We’ve created a lovely video showcasing some of the highlights from this year’s Tour de Barchester – a gruelling 200-mile cycling challenge.

Thanks to the incredible support of our colleagues, care homes, sponsors and suppliers, we raised over £64,000 for Barchester's Charitable Foundation, which supports older people and other adults living with a disability or a mental health condition by helping them to connect or re-connect with others in their local communities.

We’re thrilled to share that the Mayor of Swanley, Councillor Michael Horwood, has celebrated the completion of our new luxury care home in , Elderwood House, in front of invited guests from the local community.

Our CEO, Dr Pete Calveley, and General Manager, Liza Burchell, hosted the event and invited guests to view the stunning new 62-bed care home.

The home has been designed with residents’ comfort in mind and the team at Elderwood House will offer residential support, respite stays and dementia care, all delivered by a dedicated and passionate team of trained professionals.
