My talk for Society of Genealogists is all about my 2nd great grandfather Walter Brown. It was the Bible he and his wife were given at their marriage, that started my fascination with family history and a change of career.

Join us for The Story of Walter Brown with Karen de Bruyne - and an opportunity to meet one of the newest Trustees of the Society of Genealogists.

In this engaging case study, Karen shares how a single discovery (her Brown family bible) became the starting point for uncovering the life of Walter Brown, a baker’s son from Rickmansworth who went on to become a successful grocer in Tottenham and a prominent Baptist.

Karen explains:
“My talk is very case study based. How I uncovered Walter’s story from finding my Brown family bible. The starting point of my family history research and a new career etc.”

Through the records and documents used to trace Walter’s life, this talk demonstrates how family history research can begin with one treasured object and lead to unexpected discoveries, new skills and entirely new directions.
