It's 34Β°C outside - and the sea looks incredibly tempting. But UK sea temperatures in spring are still around 10-15Β°C. And that temperature difference could be fatal.

Cold water shock causes involuntary gasping and hyperventilation the moment you hit the water. That can lead to hypothermia, and even drowning. Even strong swimmers are at risk.

Here's the physics behind why the sea stays so cold even during a heatwave - and how to stay cool instead.

It's a UK heatwave, and 34Β°C is a genuine health risk. Here are my top tips based on NHS advice to keep you and your loved ones safe.

Keep curtains closed during the day. Stay hydrated, and avoid alcohol which dehydrates you. Stay out of the sun between 11am and 3pm. And please check on vulnerable people - young children, older people, and anyone with underlying health conditions are most at risk.

One tip most people miss: if you take medication that needs to stay cool, keep it in a cool dry place, or in the fridge if that's where it’s meant to be.

Can't sleep in the heat? Here are the most unhinged (but actually science-backed) hacks to cool down and get some rest during the UK heatwave.

From pulse points and evaporative cooling to mosquito nets and fan positioning, these are the tricks that actually work when you don't have air conditioning.

Your hypothalamus (your brain's thermostat) can be tricked into cooling your core body temperature - find out how in this video.

The UK Foreign Office invited me to the Global Partnerships Conference β€” and it was a privilege to be in the room. 🌍

The conversations were frank, focused, and urgent. Three issues stayed with me.

AI & climate β€” used responsibly, artificial intelligence could predict climate disasters before they strike, accelerate vaccine delivery, and support communities in ways we're only beginning to understand.

Malaria β€” still one of the world's leading killers. Activist and award-winning choreographer Sherrie Silver spoke about losing her cousin to a disease that remains entirely preventable. That should not be happening in 2026.

Violence against women and girls β€” Nour Norris shared how she lost her sister and niece, and how that loss became a lifelong commitment to change. This is a global issue that demands a global response. .norris

The conclusion from the conference was clear: dialogue alone is not enough. Real progress requires countries to break down silos, share knowledge, and act together.

As poet laureate Ayan Aden put it β€” move. Please move.

It's hitting 32Β°C in the UK β€” and yes, we know the rest of the world is laughing at us. But here's the science behind why UK heat is genuinely unbearable, even at temperatures that feel mild elsewhere.

Only about 5% of UK homes have air conditioning. Our houses are built for winter β€” thick brick walls, heavy insulation, no ventilation. So when the sun comes in during the day, all of that heat gets trapped inside. And then we try to sleep in it.

Remember when the UK hit 40Β°C for the first time ever in 2022? We were not ready then. We are not ready now.

32Β°C is also a genuine health risk β€” especially for young children, older people, and anyone with underlying health conditions. Please check on your friends and neighbours today.

Stay tuned β€” how to sleep during a heatwave video coming soon.

🚨 BREAKING: The WHO has declared Ebola a global health emergency.

The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has been declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern β€” the WHO's highest level of alert, short of a pandemic. With hundreds of suspected cases and over 100 deaths, and no approved vaccine or treatment for this strain, this is a rapidly evolving situation.

This outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola β€” for which there are no licensed vaccines or drugs. The last major Ebola outbreak in 2013–16 killed over 11,000 people across West Africa. This strain is different β€” but in some ways harder to fight.

The suspected first case was a nurse who died on 27 April. It wasn't confirmed as Ebola until 14 May β€” nearly three weeks of undetected spread β€” because initial tests were only calibrated for the Zaire strain.

Unless you're in or travelling to East or Central Africa, your personal risk remains very low. Unlike COVID, Ebola doesn't spread through the air β€” it requires direct contact with infected body fluids.

🚨 This SILENT KILLER affects 1.4 billion people - and most don't even know they have it.

High blood pressure has no symptoms. No warning signs. But it's the leading preventable cause of premature death worldwide - quietly causing heart disease, stroke, and kidney disease in people who feel completely fine.

Today is World Hypertension Day - and the message is simple: know your numbers.

The risk factors might surprise you. Being overweight, not exercising, smoking, alcohol, air pollution - and one of the biggest? A high-salt diet.

The good news? It's preventable and treatable. Eat less salt, move more, avoid to***co, limit alcohol, and if you've been prescribed medication - take it consistently.

Get your blood pressure checked. Today.

🚨 BREAKING: Ebola outbreak kills at least 80 people in DRC

An Ebola outbreak has been confirmed in the Ituri province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, with 246 suspected cases and at least 80 suspected deaths. And this strain is particularly concerning - because the vaccines and treatments we have for Ebola don't work against it.

The Bundibugyo strain of Ebola has no approved vaccine and no specific treatment. It's only caused two previous outbreaks in history. Uganda has confirmed an imported death in Kampala, meaning this has already crossed an international border.

Ebola spreads through direct contact with infected body fluids - including contaminated clothing and surfaces, and preparing the body of someone who has died. It can be fatal in up to 50% of those infected with this strain.

The , , and MSF are on the ground. But the outbreak was likely undetected for weeks before being declared - which makes containment significantly harder.

Unless you're in or travelling to East or Central Africa, your personal risk is very low. This is the time for strategy, not panic.

AI in dermatology is advancing at a rapid pace! πŸš€

It was amazing to be at an educational event with and - alongside dermatology experts, patient advocates, and fellow clinician creators.

We learned the importance of skin cancer prevention, early detection and treatment - every week matters.

Enter DERM AI, a Class III CE medical device that has shown incredible results when it comes to differentiating benign and malignant lesions, and even high accuracy diagnoses of the most common skin cancers.

This technology, combined with tele-dermatology, stands to free up clinician time, and improve the standard of care, not just for skin cancer patients but all dermatology patients.

It was great to hear from a panel of patient advocates about their lived experience of skin cancer, and expert dermatologists about the incredible advances in this space.

⚠️ SPOILERS BELOW ⚠️
Strep pharyngitis is a bacterial throat infection caused by Group A Streptococcus - and it's one of the most common reasons children visit their GP. Key features include tonsillar exudates, tender anterior cervical lymphadenopathy, fever and no cough. Doctors use clinical tools like the Centor score and FeverPAIN criteria to decide whether antibiotics are needed - because if left untreated, it can lead to rheumatic fever, causing joint pain and even heart damage.

I got this one in 1 clue - could you?! 🀯
