The best feedback isn’t always:

“My baby loved it.”

Sometimes it’s something much more meaningful.

A parent telling me that they started noticing their baby’s development differently.

Because babies are constantly learning and changing, but when you’re in the middle of feeding, nappy changes, naps and trying to remember whether you’ve actually had a hot cup of tea today…

…it can be easy to miss the tiny things.

The new reach.

The way they turn towards your voice.

The discovery of their feet.

That little shift in how they move.

The new sound they’ve suddenly started making.

These moments might seem tiny.

But they’re telling us something.

And one of the things I love about my classes is helping parents understand what they’re seeing.

Not turning development into a checklist.

Not comparing one baby to another.

Just helping you become more curious about your own baby.

Because when you understand them a little more, those ordinary moments can become even more special. 🤍

October and November courses are now available to book.

And if you’re fascinated by what your baby is doing right now, you’re exactly the sort of parent I love having in class.

So…

What stage of development are you fascinated by at the moment?

Here’s my slightly unpopular opinion…

You really don’t.

There is so much pressure on parents to constantly entertain, stimulate and “do activities” with their babies.

But your baby is learning through so many of the ordinary things you already do together.

Talking to them while you make a cup of tea.

Singing the same song for the hundredth time.

Making eye contact during a feed.

Letting them reach for your face.

Giving them time to move freely on the floor.

Copying their sounds.

Following where their attention goes.

Giving them a cuddle when they need one.

These aren’t “nothing”.

These are development.

And this is something I really want parents to feel confident about.

Your baby doesn’t need a Pinterest-worthy activity every day.

They need responsive, repeated, meaningful interaction.

That’s a huge part of what we explore at Birch Holistics too, taking simple developmental principles and turning them into purposeful, enjoyable moments that you can actually use at home.

Because supporting your baby’s development shouldn’t feel like another thing on your to-do list. 🤍

So, tell me yours:

What is your baby’s current favourite everyday activity?

🗣️ Chatting
🦶 Playing with their feet
👀 Watching EVERYTHING
🥰 Cuddles

Tomorrow we begin…

After weeks of planning, preparing and getting everything ready, our September Birch Holistics classes are finally here.

And there are still a few spaces if you’ve been thinking about joining us.

•Baby Massage | Wetherby
Starting tomorrow, Monday 7th September

•Baby Yoga | Wetherby
Starting tomorrow, Monday 7th September

•Baby Massage + Baby Yoga | Headingley
Starting Wednesday 9th September

•Baby Yoga | Ilkley
Starting Friday 18th September

These aren’t classes where your baby needs to sit quietly, sleep at the right time or behave perfectly.

Babies cry.
Babies feed.
Babies wriggle.
Babies sleep.
Babies need cuddles.

That’s all part of it.

They’re simply little spaces to slow down, connect with your baby, learn something you can take home with you and spend some time with other parents who are right there in it too. 🤍

If you’ve been thinking “I’d really love to try that…” perhaps this is your little nudge.

There are still spaces available.

There can be a strange thing that happens when you become a mum.

Suddenly your days revolve around someone else’s needs.

And gradually, without really noticing, the things that were yours can disappear into the background.

Your favourite book.
Your music.
Your hobbies.
Your walks.
Your coffee in peace.
The things that made you laugh.

I’m not suggesting you need to “find yourself again”.

You’re still here.

But perhaps there’s one little thing you used to enjoy that you could bring back into your week?

Even if it looks a little different now.

Because looking after yourself isn’t always about having a bath or getting more sleep.

Sometimes it’s simply remembering: I am a person too.

What’s one thing you used to love doing?

No pressure to restart it, just tell me. 🤍

05/09/2026

The polished version of a baby class is lovely.

But the real version?

That’s the one I love.

Because babies don’t always arrive ready to participate.

Sometimes they’re hungry.
Sometimes they’re tired.
Sometimes they’re fascinated by the person next to them.
Sometimes they want to be cuddled.
Sometimes they cry.

And sometimes you need five minutes to sit down and breathe.

None of those things mean you’ve got it wrong.

They’re just part of having a baby.

So if you’ve ever worried that your baby might cry during a class…

Please know this:

You don’t have to have a perfectly behaved baby to belong here.

You just need to turn up.

❓Which would be most reassuring to know is completely normal at a baby class?

Have you discovered baby cinema yet? 🎬🤍

Because if you’re in that stage of life where going to the cinema feels like something you used to do before having a baby…

There’s something rather lovely about discovering that you don’t necessarily have to give it up.

Wetherby Cinema runs Baby & Me screenings specifically for parents and carers with little ones under 12 months.

The atmosphere is designed to be more relaxed, so if your baby feeds, cries, wriggles, chats, falls asleep or needs to be cuddled halfway through…

That’s okay.

You’re not disturbing everyone.

You are the everyone.

My Birch tip? Don’t wait until you think your baby is going to be perfectly settled. Go as you are.

And if you try it, I’d love to know…

What would you choose to watch? 🎬

Save this one for a rainy afternoon when you fancy getting out of the house.

If you’re looking for a baby class, it’s easy to focus on what your baby will do.

What activities are included?
What will they learn?
What equipment is provided?

But I think there are a few other questions worth asking too.

Will I feel comfortable here?
Will my baby’s cues be respected?
Will I understand why we’re doing what we’re doing?
What happens if my baby cries?

After years of working with young children, I’ve learnt that the environment around a child matters just as much as the activity itself.

Babies learn through relationships, repetition, movement, sensory experiences and being given the space to explore.

And parents deserve to feel supported while all of that is happening. 🤍

❓What would be your number 4?

If you’re looking for a class where development, connection and your wellbeing all have a place, that’s exactly what I’m trying to create at Birch Holistics. Booking link in bio.

A baby started crying during class.

And almost immediately, their parent looked around the room.

That little apologetic look.

The one that says:

“I’m so sorry.”

But here’s what I wanted them to know.

Nobody was sorry.

Nobody was annoyed.

Nobody was thinking they were ruining the class.

Nobody needed them to make their baby stop crying.

We just carried on.

Some babies were happily doing what we were doing.

Some were watching.

One was having a cuddle.

And one needed to cry.

Because that’s what babies do.

Sometimes they’re tired.

Sometimes they’re hungry.

Sometimes they need their parent.

Sometimes we don’t actually know why they’re crying.

And that’s okay too.

I never want Birch Holistics to be a place where parents feel they need to apologise for their baby’s behaviour.

Your baby doesn’t have to be quiet for you to belong here.

They don’t have to sit still.

They don’t have to “join in”.

And you don’t have to spend the whole class worrying about whether you’re disturbing everyone else.

You can just be here.

Because this is a baby class.

And babies are allowed to be babies. 🤍

Have you ever felt like you needed to apologise when your baby cried in public?

One of the things I hear most from new parents is:

“I’m really nervous about coming.”

And I completely understand.

Walking into a room full of people you don’t know, with a tiny baby who may or may not decide to cooperate, can feel like a BIG thing when you’re already finding your feet as a parent.

So I love testimonials like this one.

Because behind the words is a parent who nearly didn’t come.

They weren’t sure what to expect.

They didn’t know anyone.

They were nervous.

And then they discovered that they didn’t need to arrive feeling confident.

They just needed to be welcomed.

That’s what I want Birch Holistics to feel like.

A place where you can arrive with your baby exactly as they are.

A place where you don’t have to know what you’re doing.

A place where nobody minds if you need to feed, change, cuddle or pause.

And somewhere that, hopefully, becomes one of the things you look forward to each week. 🤍

So if you’ve been hovering over the booking page thinking “I’m not sure…”

Maybe this is your little nudge.

September classes are almost underway, with spaces available where applicable.

This is one I hear, or sense, quite often.

Because when you’re looking at a baby class, it can be easy to imagine that everyone else’s baby will be beautifully settled, perfectly timed and somehow know exactly what they’re supposed to be doing.

And yours might not.

But here’s the thing…

Real babies don’t always fit neatly into routines.

They feed when they’re hungry.

They sleep when they’re tired.

They need cuddles.

They cry.

They need a nappy changing halfway through something.

Sometimes they arrive full of energy and sometimes they spend the entire class wanting to be close to you.

And all of that is completely normal.

You don’t need a predictable baby to come to Birch Holistics.

You don’t need to have the perfect routine.

You don’t even need to know what you’re doing yet.

You just need to turn up.

The classes are designed to fit around real babies and real parents, because that’s who they’re for. 🤍

And sometimes, simply having somewhere to go each week can become a gentle rhythm of its own.

September classes are almost underway, with spaces available.

So tell me…

🌿 A — My baby loves a routine
😂 B — What routine?!
