"The purpose of our lives is to be happy"

This might seem like a meaningless cliche but there is actually hard science to back up the benefits of happiness and the impact it has on the rest of the world.

When we are happy our brain is flooded with feel good hormones like serotonin, dopamine and oxytocin. These all make us feel good in the moment but they also have huge benefit to our brains ability to function at it's best.

When we have these chemicals in our brain it works faster, it's better at problem solving, it's more creative in the solutions it finds, as well as being more motivated to carry out our solutions.

So when we are happy and flooding our brain with these positive chemicals it means that whatever task or purpose we are working towards our brain is supporting us to do it at it's best.

And when we are working at our best everyone around us feels the benefit!

So it is well worth cultivating happiness in our lives as a way of achieving success in whatever our life's purpose is :-)

Do you ever sit down to relax… and immediately feel like you should be doing something? 👀

Sometimes we're technically resting, but mentally we're still thinking about the next job, the unfinished task or what we should be doing.

In this episode of Moving Minds Forward, Gary explores why switching off can feel so difficult — and why relaxation is something we may need to practise rather than something we're automatically able to do.

🎙️ Why You Can't Switch Off

Tired of masking? You're not alone.

In this blog, Madi from Inspired To Change Tunbridge Wells, explores the hidden impact that masking neurodivergent traits can have, drawing on both her professional experience and her own lived experience of ADHD and autism,

Madi looks at why masking can become an automatic way of navigating social situations, relationships and work, and how the constant effort of monitoring and changing yourself can contribute to stress, overwhelm and burnout.

Madi also explores what it can mean to start unmasking, and why this doesn’t necessarily mean stopping every behaviour that could be considered masking.

Instead, it’s about having more choice over when you use these strategies, creating a safe space to be yourself and finding ways to feel more comfortable with who you are.

Can't get to sleep at night?

Still tired in the morning?

Would you love to wake up in the morning feeling refreshed and restored and ready for your day?

I often hear my clients telling me that they just aren’t great sleepers, and they are always surprised when I tell them it doesn’t have to be that way!

1 in 3 of us don't get enough sleep. But it's not just about the amount of sleep we get, it's about the quality of sleep we get too.

We do two things when we sleep - we restore our minds and our bodies. But if our sleep patterns are out of whack our sleep is no longer restorative and mental and physical exhaustion sets in.

But the good news is a few sessions of solution focused hypnotherapy can improve your sleep patterns helping you to feel refreshed , restored and ready to enjoy your day!

To find out how hypnotherapy can help you feel rested and refreshed every morning, get in touch today and book your FREE initial consultation.

“But what if I don’t believe in hypnotherapy?” 👀

It's a question Gary hears from people who are curious about hypnotherapy but aren't quite convinced.

His answer? You don't have to believe. You just have to be willing to take part.

Many people arrive feeling sceptical — and that's okay. You don't need to force yourself to believe something before you walk through the door.

🎙️ Here's Gary's take.

When you hear “move more”, do you immediately think exercise? 🏃

Movement doesn't have to mean a gym session, a run or hitting a certain number of steps.

Small amounts of natural movement throughout the day count too — getting up from your desk, stretching, walking while you're on the phone or stepping outside for a few minutes.

Our ITC blog explores why movement matters for your mental wellbeing and some simple ways to build more of it into everyday life.

How do you naturally get movement into your day? 👇

Stress is a bit like damp...
It rarely starts with a wall covered in mould.
It begins with one small patch that’s easy to ignore.
Your brain works the same way.
A little extra stress.
A few restless nights.
Less patience.
More overthinking.
Before you know it, your nervous system is working overtime.
Don’t ignore emotional damp.
The sooner you deal with it, the easier it is to stop it spreading.
💬 Have you noticed your own early warning signs? Share one in the comments.
If this resonated, save this post and follow for more practical neuroscience made simple.

"You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream"

Infact setting new goals and working towards new dreams is a great way to keep our brain fit and healthy as we age!

As we fire up our brain with new ideas and plans, and take actions to work towards something our brain is flooded with a cocktail of beneficial chemicals like serotonin and dopamine which are all hugely beneficial to the long term health of our brain!

Imagine treating your car the way some men treat their mental health...
No servicing.
No maintenance.
Just keep driving until something breaks.
Sounds ridiculous, doesn’t it?
Yet many men ignore the warning signs from their own brains.
Regular mental health check-ins aren’t a luxury.
They’re good maintenance.
👇 If you could give your mind one thing this weekend, what would it be?

Don’t wait until your ceiling collapses...
The same goes for your mental health.
Stress usually doesn’t appear overnight.
It builds.
Quietly.
Until one day your patience disappears, your sleep suffers and everything feels harder than it should.
The good news?
You don’t have to wait until you’re overwhelmed before getting support.
Looking after your mental health isn’t admitting defeat.
It’s preventing bigger problems later.
💬 What’s one thing you do to look after your mental wellbeing?

Being a hypnotherapist doesn't mean you have to figure everything out alone. 💙

Working independently can sometimes feel isolating — even when you're confident in what you do.

That's why supervision isn't just somewhere to go when you have a problem. It's a space to reflect, learn from others, build confidence and stay connected to a professional community.

Inspired to Change offers flexible online group supervision for Solution Focused Hypnotherapists, led by Level 5 qualified supervisors and CPHT lecturers. Sessions are available across different days and times, with ongoing peer support between sessions.

Practise with clarity. Grow with confidence.

Hypnosis isn't about switching off. 🧠

A common misconception about hypnosis is that you're asleep, unaware or no longer in control.

As Gary explains, the experience is actually about focus and awareness — not simply “switching off.”

You can still hear what's happening around you. You can open your eyes. You're still aware.

As Gary puts it:

“Sleeping is switching off. Hypnosis is switching on and pointing your attention where it's useful.”

💭 Did this change how you think about hypnosis?

Ever feel like you’re not good enough? 😟

That nagging voice in your head telling you:

That’s imposter syndrome and it affects so many of us more than we realise.

In this blog, we look at:

We often talk about stress as something we need to avoid — but some stress can actually be helpful.

In short bursts, our stress response can give us the energy, focus and motivation we need to face a challenge. Think deadlines, presentations, trying something new or stepping outside your comfort zone. This is described as “challenge stress.”

But when stress becomes excessive or prolonged, it can begin to affect our ability to cope. This is where helpful challenge stress can become “threat stress.” 🚨

💭 What are your early warning signs that stress is becoming too much?
