A little moment from unboxing my new book, Oubaitori: The Japanese Art of Self-Acceptance, which comes out tomorrow 🌸
At its heart, Oubaitori is about letting go of comparison, embracing your own unique path and learning to celebrate the different seasons of your life.
I hope this book can be a gentle reminder that there is no one timeline we need to follow, and that we can appreciate where we are while still growing into who we are becoming.
If you’d like to take a look, you can find the book through the link in my bio 🤍

余韻 (Yoin) 🌬️🍃🎐

The feeling that lingers after a moment has passed.

As summer begins to soften into the next season, we’ve been thinking about the things that stay with us.

A place we visited.
A conversation we keep remembering.
A meal, a sound, a feeling, a moment we didn’t realise we would miss. ☀️🌿

In Japanese, 余韻 describes that quiet after-feeling. The trace of something that remains, even after the moment itself has ended.

Maybe this is a small reminder to notice what this summer is leaving with you. 🤍

What has stayed with you lately?

It’s been a little quieter than usual around here while Saori has been on maternity leave - but we’re so excited to finally share some news. 🌸

Oubaitori: The Japanese Art of Self-Acceptance, Saori’s upcoming book, is now available to pre-order.

Inspired by the Japanese four-character idiom oubaitori (桜梅桃李), the book explores how Japanese wellness practices and timeless wisdom can help us move away from comparison and cultivate greater self-acceptance.

If you’ve been thinking about pre-ordering, we’re delighted to share that the book is included in the Waterstones 25% Pre-Order Event, with 25% off from 21–24 July.

We’ll be sharing much more about the book, the stories behind it, and the Japanese ideas that inspired it over the coming months. For now, we simply wanted to say hello again 👋 and thank you for being here.

We can’t wait to share this journey with you. 🌸

✨ May Theme: 空 (Kū) ✨
Creating space to practise the power of presence 🌿

As May begins, we’re focusing on 空,
the idea of space, openness, and letting things be as they are.

Today is Kodomo no Hi, Children’s Day in Japan 🎏
a day to celebrate children’s happiness, growth, and well-being.

Children often remind us of presence in its simplest form:
curiosity, openness, and noticing the small things. 🌱

Mindfulness doesn’t have to be complicated.
It can begin with one breath, one pause, or one quiet moment in the day. 🌬️

This month, may we create more space,
for ourselves and for those we care for. 🤍

As April comes to a close and spring continues to unfold around us, we’re gently reflecting on this month’s focus: kotodama — the quiet power held within the words we choose. 💬⚡️

The way we speak, even to ourselves, shapes how we move through each day.
Small words, simple phrases, soft reminders. ✨

It doesn’t have to be perfect or profound.
Even something as simple as
“I’m doing my best today” or
“I can take this one step at a time” 🤍

Spring reminds us that change happens gradually. 🌱
In the same way, the words we repeat can slowly take root. 🌱

As the season continues, perhaps take a moment to notice what you’re telling yourself. 🌸

Words hold power, so choose words that feel a little kinder, a little softer. 🍃

To begin to sprout 🌱
To quietly come into being 🌿

Used to describe the moment when something new starts to grow 🌸
not fully visible yet, but gently emerging 🌼

In spring, it reflects the first signs of life in nature 🌷🌿
In us, it can be a feeling, a shift, or something taking shape 🤍
before we fully understand it ✨

In Japanese, you might hear expressions like
「自覚が芽生えた」 or 「気持ちが芽生える」 🌸
which go beyond something literal —
they describe a feeling, awareness, or intention
that has softly begun within 🌱💫

A reminder that not everything needs to be fully formed to begin 🌱🌼
