For many women and couples, reaching pregnancy after IVF has already been a long journey. I understand that a positive pregnancy test doesn’t necessarily mean that all the anxiety suddenly disappears.
When I first meet you, I will take time to understand your individual IVF journey—including the reasons for IVF, previous treatment or pregnancy history, your general health, and any factors relevant to your pregnancy.
We will then make a personalised plan for your pregnancy, rather than treating every IVF pregnancy in the same way. We will discuss your scans, screening, any additional monitoring you may benefit from, and what you can expect as the pregnancy progresses.
Just as importantly, we will make time to discuss your concerns.
After a difficult fertility journey, it is completely understandable to need reassurance, and sometimes that means an additional review or scan rather than simply waiting for the next routine appointment.
As your obstetrician, my role is not only to manage any additional risks associated with an IVF pregnancy, but to provide continuity, reassurance and evidence-based advice throughout — from those anxious early weeks, through decisions about your pregnancy and birth, to the safe arrival of your baby.
After everything it may have taken to become pregnant, I want you to feel that you have someone alongside you who knows your history, understands your pregnancy, and is there when you need advice.
