Music, Dancing and Lots of Fun ✨🎶

Residents have been entertained by fantastic performers recently, each treating us to their own style, energy and musical favourites.

Franz filled the lounge with jazz classics and showed off his energetic dance moves, while Pete had everyone singing along to songs from John Denver, Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra. Dave also took to the stage with props and everyone sang along - The Jungle Book songs were a big hit 🐒 🎤

Jane took us on a nostalgic musical journey through the 1960s, with songs from Dusty Springfield, Sandie Shaw and Elvis Presley. Jamie brought sunshine inside with a British Summer Time performance, complete with colourful costumes and songs from favourites including Cliff Richard, Dolly Parton, Nat King Cole and Buddy Holly ☀️

Residents have loved their musical mornings, so thank you to all our wonderful entertainers 🎵

Tech Time at TWH 💻📱

Residents have been enjoying Technology and Wellness sessions, discovering different ways that technology can be used for creativity, communication and fun.

Using our special RITA computer and interactive equipment, residents have enjoyed digital colouring, sensory games, and drawing activities, while also developing practical skills such as writing emails to loved ones and making video calls. Some have also been getting creative with their own phones, taking selfies and updating their personal profiles 📧

These sessions are a lovely way to explore technology and use digital tools to stay connected with friends and family 🌟

Celebrating Jennifer’s Special Day 🌸

Jennifer was our Resident of the Day this month and we made sure her day was filled with the things she loves most. Wearing her favourite colour, pink, Jennifer enjoyed a day full of music, family and spending time outdoors.

Entertainer Dave performed some of her favourite Beatles songs, and our student nurse on placement played Beatles hits on his guitar. Our wonderful volunteer Gerry also brought along a collection of Beatles books, music books and photographs to make Jennifer's day even more musical 🎵

Jennifer’s daughter, Nicola, arrived for a surprise visit and they took a trip to one of their favourite places to spend time together, Richmond Park’s beautiful Isabella Plantation. They enjoyed the surroundings and looked at the gorgeous flowers and wildlife 🌿

Jennifer has always loved nature, flowers, birds, smiling and keeping things less complicated, and that’s what her special day was all about 💗

A Royal Day to Remember 👑

Residents recently visited Buckingham Palace and it was a truly memorable trip out. After being greeted with smiles and waves upon arrival, residents were made to feel extra special as they had the honour of being escorted through the gates and into the grounds, which involved driving through the famous courtyard.

Residents explored the Palace and admired state rooms, chandeliers, priceless artwork, antiques and the impressive music room. Everyone was captivated by the beauty and history of the building, with each room more magnificent than the last. The visit was made even more special as Ruth was celebrating her 100th birthday. Palace staff wished her a happy birthday throughout the day and even gave her a card, making her feel like royalty.

After taking in the stunning surroundings, everyone sat down to enjoy a delicious afternoon tea, before spending time exploring the beautiful gardens in the sunshine. It was certainly a day to remember 🇬🇧

Getting Creative 🧶🌸

Residents have been busy with a variety of arts and crafts activities, including making knitted ice creams and yarn sunflowers with volunteer Sue White. The creations have added a pop of colour to TWH and it's lovely to see residents’ creativity on display. They’ve also been creating stunning flower arrangements with volunteer Gaye, and the colourful bouquets and floral displays have helped to bring the beauty of summer inside🍦🌻

Arts and crafts sessions are a wonderful way for residents to unwind, get creative and spend time together. There's always lots of conversation, shared ideas and laughter as everyone brings their own personal touch to each project 💛

Connections and Creative Cupcakes 🧁

Our Family & Friends Connection Session was filled with laughter and creativity as residents welcomed their loved ones for another special afternoon.

Families, friends and residents enjoyed tea, coffee and a selection of delicious homemade cakes whilst they caught up, shared stories and spent quality time together.

A highlight of the afternoon was a fun cupcake decorating competition. Residents and their families worked together to create colourful designs using icing, edible flowers, sprinkles and chocolate hearts. Every cupcake was unique - making it difficult to choose the winners! - and residents were awarded a medal for their efforts, which they all wore with pride 🏅

These monthly events are a wonderful way to strengthen connections, create memories and bring everyone together 💙

Join Us for Our ‘Open Garden’ Event in support of Princess Alice Hospice 🌸

We are delighted to announce that next month's Friends & Families Connection Session will be extra special, as we’re opening our garden to residents, families, friends and the local community for an afternoon of fun, food and fundraising in support of Princess Alice Hospice as part of their "Open Garden" initiative.

Join us for games, a cultural food stall, cake stand, tombola and raffle, and lots of opportunities to support a fantastic local charity. Every donation made on the day will go directly to Princess Alice Hospice, helping them continue to provide compassionate care and support to families and loved ones.

If you're able to help, we're currently looking for bottles for our tombola and good quality raffle prizes. We'd be incredibly grateful if you could drop your items into TWH at your convenience

Sharing Stories and Memories 💬

Regular reminiscence sessions give residents the chance to look back on memorable moments and share personal experiences. Using specially designed reminiscence cards - featuring famous people, historical events and everyday objects from the past - residents explore topics that often spark memories. From the Royal Family and key moments in history, to early mobile phones and famous world events, each session inspires discussions and stories from residents.

It's lovely to see residents encouraging one another and bringing history to life through their own memories. These sessions play an important role in encouraging memory recall and creating moments of connection 🧠

Ice Cream Van Visit to TWH - Scoops, Smiles and Sunshine ☀️🍦

Yesterday, we celebrated National Ice Cream Day - a day dedicated to celebrating everyone’s favourite frozen dessert - with a special visit from local ice cream van Kingstonian Ice Cream. Enrico provided residents, staff and volunteers with a fantastic selection of delicious ice creams to choose from. Chocolate was the clear favourite, but everyone enjoyed choosing their own tasty summer treat 🍨

Residents who were unable to join outside were treated to room service, so everyone could be part of the fun. Our wonderful volunteers were also invited to join in the celebrations, helping to make the afternoon even more special.

It was a delicious way to spend a summer afternoon 😋

Bastille Day and South Asian Heritage Month

Residents enjoyed an authentic Bastille Day celebration, discovering France's history and heritage through traditional accordion music, fascinating facts, learning how to pronounce French words and photographs of iconic landmarks. The celebrations were rounded off with French delicacies and red wine, giving everyone a true taste of France 🇫🇷

South Asian Heritage Month was celebrated with an afternoon of traditional music, dance, food and cultural dress. Staff performances represented India, the Philippines and Afghanistan, with residents learning about associated customs and traditions. It was a lovely way to celebrate the diversity within our team and community through music, food and friendship 🌍

Sharing stories, traditions and experiences ensures everyone feels welcomed and included 💛
