Nell Mead Physiotherapist Specialist in complex musculoskeletal rehab. Book available now on Amazon: How To Be Your Own Physio. Everything in your body is connected.

An injury in one place can lead to compensation and further injury in another. So when you feel pain, you need to know where the trouble stems from. When you come to see me, I'll find, analyse and tackle the cause of your pain, rather than just looking at the symptoms. Once I've located the problem, I can help you get better and better. No temporary fixes - I only deal in long-term solutions. Ever

yone's body has a story to tell, and when you come to see me, I'll listen. I understand that injury is rarely just about one painful part. Using my unique Health & Performance Pyramid, I'll look at your body as a whole to find the real cause of the problem. And when I'm designing a treatment plan for you, it's about more than physiology; I'll think about who you are, and what's important to you, whether it's trampolining or trips abroad. Call my team on 0207 175 0150 now to find out how I can help you.

“BEST MONEY I EVER SPENT!!”

Here’s what my patient, JC, had to say:

"I found Nell last month after looking into help for an ongoing leg/hip issue. I had seen a physiotherapist before but had had no luck. I signed up to an online consult which I was a bit dubious about. BEST MONEY I EVER SPENT!! Nell was warm, friendly and completed a thorough assessment via video call. She had an impact on a problem that had been bothering me for years. Her follow-up notes and video exercises were thorough and easy to follow."

When I first started offering online consultations, I wasn’t sure how they would be received - but stories like this show how impactful they can be. You don’t always need an in-person session to uncover the root cause of your pain and start making progress.

Whether it’s an old issue that hasn’t been resolved or something new that’s causing discomfort, a clear, holistic assessment (even online) can be the game-changer you’ve been looking for.

This is also why I created my online self-assessment course - to bring my clinic-style approach to your home. With simple tools and step-by-step guidance, you’ll learn how to identify the real cause of your pain and take meaningful steps to address it.

You don’t have to wait for an in-person appointment to start feeling better: howtobeyourownphysio.com/courses

Been through physio and still in pain? It might not be you - it might be the approach.

Traditional treatment often focuses only on the painful area. But what if your knee pain is coming from your hip? Or your shoulder pain is linked to your ribcage?

💤 Could a power nap actually save your life? Science suggests yes!

A 2007 study found that, compared to people who didn't take a siesta, those who took an occasional nap had a 12% lower risk of death from a heart attack...
..and that those who took a regular siesta (at least three days per week) dropped their risk by a whopping 37%.

Consistency in your sleep schedule is important for maintaining circadian rhythms though, so don't overdo the napping, or you might find yourself wide awake at 3am! While quantity matters, quality is equally vital.

And I'm off for a nap!

In 2010, it was time for me to leave the Army.
I'd been promoted to the rank of Major and posted to RAF Akrotiri, part of British Forces Cyprus, in 2008.

As Officer Commanding (OC) Physiotherapy, I was responsible for the physios and exercise rehabilitation instructors who maintained the musculoskeletal health of some 8,000 British forces personnel and their families, over five sites.

I’d enjoyed being the OC. Alas, I knew that it was the most clinical role I’d ever be allowed to have as a Major (mainly because the nearest physio who outranked me and could tell me what to do, was about 3,000 miles away, so while I was in Cyprus, I could basically invent my own job description!)

I love seeing patients and didn’t want to go into full-time management, or policy writing, which were the only real options open to me at that time (the Army has since developed a specialist clinical career path for physiotherapists). It was with mixed feelings that I pressed the magic ‘retirement’ button on the online military personnel system in the summer of 2009.

And that is how my journey into private practice in London started. I opened the doors to Victory Health & Performance in the summer of 2010, thinking of building a multidisciplinary clinic along the military lines I was used to. I built and worked with a team of great therapists until the autumn of 2019 when I realised that I was still a better clinician than a manager, and made the incredibly difficult decision to close the clinic and go solo.

I've been a sole practitioner for over 5 years now - but not ever really "sole" because I still regularly see, talk to and share patients with many of the therapists who worked with me at Victory - and I haven't looked back. Now that I don't have staff to look after, I can devote more of my energy to my patients, as I'd hoped (and also to Feta, my little street dog from Cyprus who's now 18 and needs time and love). And of course, I've also managed to carve out time to work on my books and online courses.
