It's diabetes week, so this week we are sharing a series of posts for any of you who have diabetes. 😉

If you have both diabetes and CKD, having good blood sugar control isn’t just about your diabetes; it's also about protecting your kidneys. 💚

Your kidneys filter your blood every day, and when blood sugar levels are high, the tiny blood vessels in the kidneys can become damaged over time. 🧐

Keeping blood sugars within your target range can help protect kidney function and reduce the risk of further kidney damage. ✨

It can also support your heart and blood vessel health.

How are your blood sugars at the moment? Do you know your latest HbA1c? 👇

Friday night takeaway feeling… without the takeaway worry? 🧐

A takeaway on a special occasion isn’t going to make or break your kidney health. But if you love Chinese, Thai or Indian-style meals more regularly, homemade fakeaways can give you more control over salt, sauces, protein portions and ingredients. 💚

In our new blog post, we share our Asian fakeaway edition - with recipes like sweet and sour chicken, veggie pad thai, Thai curry, chicken jalfrezi and more.

Same comfort. More control. Still full of flavour. ✨

Read the blog post and choose your first fakeaway to try 👇

Happy World Cheese Day 🧀

But if you have CKD, you might be wondering: “Can I still eat cheese?”

Cheese can feel confusing because there are so many different types - some are high in salt, protein or saturated fat - all things that may matter when you’re trying to protect your kidneys. 🧐

The good news? Cheese doesn’t have to be completely off the menu.

On World Cheese Day, we're sharing one of our most popular blog posts (and we know why, because who doesn't love cheese?), where we explain which cheeses tend to be more kidney-friendly, what to look for on labels, and how to still enjoy cheese when you have CKD. 💚

Many people tell us they felt completely alone after diagnosis… 🫠

A CKD diagnosis can feel frightening enough on its own. But when you’re given a result by text, letter, app notification or a rushed appointment, without much explanation, it can leave you feeling abandoned.💔

You may find yourself thinking:

“What does this actually mean?”
“Is it going to get worse?”
“Should I be changing my diet?”
“Why has no one explained this properly?”
“Am I supposed to just figure this out myself?”

If this sounds familiar, please know this: your reaction makes sense.🤍

Feeling scared, confused or overwhelmed does not mean you’re overreacting. It often means you were given important information without enough support.

✅️You deserve clear answers.
✅️You deserve practical next steps.
✅️You deserve to understand your results, your diet, and what actually matters for your stage of CKD.

A diagnosis should not leave you spiralling at 2am, scrolling through conflicting advice and wondering what you’re allowed to eat.

You don’t have to do this alone.

Follow us for calm, practical CKD advice from specialist kidney dietitians.✨️

There’s a moment our clients often describe…when things start to feel easier. 🤍

It’s not dramatic.

But it’s powerful. ✨️

It sounds like:

“I didn’t have to think so much about dinner tonight.”
“I just knew what to choose when I went into Tesco.”
“I stopped second-guessing every meal.”

That shift…

From overthinking → quiet confidence ✅️

Is what changes everything.

Because it’s not just about food.

It’s about feeling like yourself again.

If you’re not there yet, that’s okay. 😉

This is exactly the kind of shift we support people through every day.

It’s British Tomato Fortnight… 🍅 and this is one of the most confusing foods we hear about with CKD.

“Can I still eat tomatoes?”
“Are they bad for my kidneys?”
“Do I need to cut them out completely?”

If you’ve ever wondered this… you’re not alone. 😉

Because tomatoes often get labelled as something to avoid.

But here’s the truth:

You don’t automatically need to cut tomatoes out. 😎

For many people with CKD Stage 3 or 4, they can still be part of a balanced, kidney-friendly diet.

It depends on:
- Your potassium levels
- Your stage of CKD
- The medication you're taking

And not all tomato foods are the same.

It’s about understanding:

✔️ What works for you
✔️ How much is appropriate
✔️ How to include foods without fear

We’ve broken this down simply in one of our blog posts including what to choose, what to limit, and how to enjoy tomatoes safely, especially if you've been advised to follow a low potassium diet.

It’s British Sandwich Week… and lunch doesn’t have to feel complicated with CKD. 😉

We hear this all the time:

“I just don’t know what to put in a sandwich anymore.” 😓

Because suddenly you’re thinking about:

- Salt
- Protein
- Processed foods
- Plant foods
- And maybe even potassium

And what used to feel simple… starts to feel like a decision. 🤔

But here’s the good news:

A kidney-friendly sandwich doesn’t have to be restrictive or boring. 🥪

It’s about:
- Choosing a good base (like wholegrain or sourdough)
- Adding protein in the right portions
- Including fresh fillings for flavour and balance
- Being mindful of shop-bought sauces

Simple.

Practical.

And something you can actually repeat day to day. 💚

We’ve put together 13 kidney-friendly sandwich ideas (plus tips to make them work for you).

This is where many people get stuck…what does a “normal” day look like now? 🤔

After a CKD diagnosis, food can start to feel like a puzzle. 😓

So here’s something important to know: A kidney-friendly day doesn’t have to look restrictive or complicated. 😉

It might look like:

- A simple breakfast you already enjoy
- A balanced lunch that doesn’t need overthinking
- A dinner your whole household will eat
- Snacks that don’t come with second-guessing

Not perfection.

Not constant calculating.

Just simple, repeatable meals that support your health and your life. 💚

That’s the shift we’re aiming for. 😊

You’ve probably been told to “just eat healthy”…but here’s the problem. ☝️

That advice sounds helpful.

But with CKD, “healthy” isn’t one-size-fits-all. 😬

Because what’s considered healthy for the general population can look very different when you’re managing kidney disease.

For example:

- A high-protein diet might be encouraged elsewhere… but may not be right for your kidneys

- Certain supplements can do more harm than good

- Eating lots of fruit and vegetables is usually a positive… but if you’ve been advised a low potassium diet, it needs a more personalised approach

- Other health conditions may make it difficult to include certain 'healthy foods'

So you’re left wondering:

“Am I doing the right thing… or making it worse?”

And that’s where the confusion starts. 🤔

Or worse… unnecessary restriction.

Here’s the truth: CKD nutrition isn’t about generic healthy eating. It’s about the right approach for your CKD stage, your other health conditions, your blood results and your overall diet. 🤍

That’s where clarity changes everything.

Have you ever been told to “just eat healthy” and felt unsure what that actually meant for you?
