Today is National Stress Awareness Day. So, here’s a reminder that you don’t need to compare the timing of your life to anyone else’s. Take a step back and congratulate yourself for what you’ve achieved, and know that wherever you are right now is exactly where you are meant to be. 💫

At a time where we are all adjusting to a new way of daily life, it’s never been more important to focus on your own happiness. Thinking about how you are perceived by others should never take precedence over preserving and working towards your own wellness.

Making New Year's resolutions is a great way to set yourself targets, however it is important to have a range of short and long term goals. Working towards achieving these is a positive step to start the year with, especially during the tough months to come during tight lockdown restrictions. Whether it is saving for that special purchase, creating a moodboard for a home interior project or simply making time for a long relaxing bath once a week - focus on what will bring you joy in the here and now, as well as in the weeks and months to come.

It can be difficult to talk about your feelings in an office environment, but that doesn’t mean they should be suppressed. Anxiety can stem from the smallest workload to a big meeting or approaching deadline. If you are feeling overwhelmed, speak to someone.

Below are 15 warning signs someone’s anxiety is setting in:

1. Appearing ‘zoned out’
2. ‘Snapping’ at something small
3. Becoming impatient
4. Struggling to make eye contact
5. Needing more reassurance
6. Struggling to sit still
7. Avoiding making plans about the future
8. Wanting to leave an event early
9. Pressured speech
10. Concentration difficulties
11. Hypersensitive to noises
12. ‘Protective’ mannerisms (e.g. stroking their arms)
13. Shortness of breath
14. Pacing back and forth
15. Dry mouth/ throat tightness/ speech difficulty

Learn to recognise these so that you can help support colleagues when you spot them.
