☀️ The sun is out — and while we love a warm summer, hot weather can be seriously dangerous for older and vulnerable people.

As temperatures rise across Bournemouth and Dorset, we want to make sure every family knows what to look out for and how to keep their loved ones safe this summer.

Here are our top tips 👇

💧 Hydrate little and often — Older adults often don’t feel thirsty even when they’re dehydrated. Offer water, juice or squash every hour, don’t wait to be asked.

🪟 Keep the heat out — Close blinds and curtains during the hottest part of the day, then open windows in the evening once the temperature starts to drop.

🚨 Know the warning signs — Dizziness, confusion, a rapid pulse, or hot dry skin are all signs of heat exhaustion or heatstroke. If you’re concerned, don’t wait — call 999.

👕 Dress for the weather — Light, loose, pale-coloured clothing makes a real difference. Try to avoid going outside between 11am and 3pm on the hottest days.

If you have an elderly parent or loved one at home and you’re worried about them this summer — please don’t hesitate to reach out. Our team is here to help with daily visits, live-in care, and everything in between.

This is Learning Disability Week (16–22 June) — a week to recognise, understand, and stand alongside the 1.5 million people in the UK living with a learning disability. 💜

A learning disability isn’t one thing. It can be mild, moderate, severe or profound — and it affects everyone differently. What doesn’t change is the right to live a life that’s truly your own.

At CarePlus, supporting people with learning disabilities is something we do every day.
