Pure evidence of the power of coming together ♥️

Abney Park Chapel
1 very beautiful venue
3 very different and equally as beautiful styles of funeral

Each one tailored to individual needs.
Each concluded with an unattended Direct Cremation

The DC conversation is a big one, rather dominate in the funeral sector, it’s steady rise in public choice disrupting a firmly embedded model however I can evidently say, when used well, they facilitate freedom and flexibility in creating farewell beyond the cooking cutter form.

Abney Park was built as a community mortuary chapel. It is a real privilege be able to honour and celebrate life here again. There’s no room for burials in the cemetery but pre cremation funeral ceremonies work wonderfully.
Its open plan layout allows for very personal and flexible use of space for gatherings of various sizes.

Thereafter special in tailoring funerals to you. Turning sad days into very special days, or at least heart warming memories to look back on. There is no right or wrong in how you say goodbye

Unquestionably there is strength in community and least we not forget.

Should you wish to discuss a funeral at Abney Park or alternative venues please get in touch.

As always, 🔗 in bio ♥️🕊️

Following participating in Resting Reefs webinar on ‘Regenerative Death’ this is something we’ve been thinking about a lot at Thereafter.

We advocate sustainable choices. In the rise of unattended direct cremation, how we honour our dead and move forward with loss is something of growing concern.

What if your final act was your greatest gift to the planet? 🌊🌿

Today, on Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday, we’re celebrating new ways to say goodbye, honouring life in ways that truly give back.

It is the intersection of sustainability, design, and deep human meaning, and it is one of the most hopeful spaces in end-of-life care today.

Memorial reefs teeming with marine life. Mycelium coffins that feed the forest. Soil that turns ashes into living trees.

Death doesn’t have to cost the earth.
Sharing knowledge and options, we’ve written about some of the most innovative, progressive and positive solutions to date

WEBINAR invite:

Some conversations are long overdue. This Wednesday, we’re having one of them…

Our needs and understanding of the funeral has changed, We’re all encouraged to live more sustainably but with 80% of us opting for cremation how can we make our exits a little more ecological?

I’m thrilled and honoured in equal measure to be in conversation with some of the most forward-thinking voices in regenerative practice whose work is reshaping how we think about life, death, business, design and our relationship with the natural world:

Join a progressive and provocative panel discussion exploring how the cultural of death and dying is changing, and how we are moving beyond tradition to engage new, sustainable practices that reposition death with the social and ecological architecture.

Our hosts:

Thereafter take a wholistic approach to our work.
Honouring Life In Loss And Loss In Life Is not just a tag line. We know saying goodbye is not a one day event.

We’re very proud to have been invited to contribute to the Enwild Grief Retreat: A weekend of grounding and letting go in the beautiful grounds of Willowbrook Farm, Oxfordshire, May 30 - June 1st

You’re invited to explore grief, your grief in a safe, structured and nurturing environment: A program of workshops, sound baths, forest bathing nature based practices and of course fine food and people await.

The vision and the purpose; you will leave emotionally lighter, rested, stronger. We cannot ‘fix’ grief but we can learn to look after ourselves in it, own it and help ourselves moving forward.

If you think this could help you, or someone you know, please do explore further, don’t be shy. It will be a wonderful, gentle, restorative weekend and all under the Blue Moon.

Any questions or queries please do get in touch with us or Enwild Directly.

Women At Work 🎭

It was a privilege and a whole lot of fun to attend the London Association of Funeral Directors gala ball last week.

Having come from the working world of arts and events where gender and highetarchy weren’t given time or place, I have been quite flabbergasted by the archaic attitudes of the dominant male world of the funeral industry 🎩

I am very proud to be amongst a number of women working in such a space, bringing our natural demise back into a language we understand, delivering all with naturally immaculate standards of care and respect.

2nd slide: the brilliant Joanna Shears and myself.
I appear to be doing a good job of looking like the Iris Apfel of the funeral industry.
I guess Thereafter are known for funerals with style so perhaps this is not a bad thing 🤓

In celebration of we’re giving a shout out to a few of our favourite authors and reads. Looking at this, the style of certain writers ticks many boxes so have opted for some double bills.

Some of the books here are selected for their advice and information in loss and grief. Others offer an adventure and insight into the unknown. Most of these are not new to the shelf but they hold their place on the shelf 100%

Evie King’s ‘Ashes To Admin’ has almost become iconic amongst peers.
Her new release, ‘Get Ahead of Being Dead, You’re Handy Planner For End of Life’ is much anticipated
Pre-Order now ahead of the main release, June 18th

Rebecca Soffer & Gabrielle Birkner’s, ‘Modern Loss’ has become a go to for me to share with friends and clients alike.
Their 1st ‘Modern Loss. Candid Conversations…‘ are so candid it may not be right for those in the very initial stages of grief, more for those navigating it as they try to interact and engage in every day life.

Caitlin Doughty, it would be hard to not mention Caitlin with her insight and wit in the working very practical world of the funeral industry.
Thereafter are very ethically aligned with the desire and disruption of The Order of The Good Death, creating a cultural shift socially, environmentally and economically

A fellow believer in looking to other cultures of their rituals and beliefs around death. ‘From Here to Eternity’ is a fabulous/ enviable trot around the globe exploring such.

‘Sum. Forty Tales of The After Life” David Eagleman, is one of the few books I can read over and over. A small book packed with 40 of the shortest stories with the biggest vision.
Each story takes you on a wild and provocative journey of the mind, no matter what your belief or disbelief of any thing beyond

More books and resources coming soon.
Swipe and enjoy … xx

🌱 If a gentler way to say goodbye was available would you choose it?

💦 Resomation aka Alkaline Hydrolysis is one of the most significant developments in funeral care in decades. It offers a profoundly natural, low-impact alternative to both burial and flame cremation, and while it isn’t yet available in the UK, it’s worth knowing about. Funeral choices are evolving ..

🌏 Resomation is available across the US, in New Zealand, South Africa, Ireland and the Netherlands are on route
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿Today marks a major milestone in funeral practice. As of today regulation has been laid and Resomation is now legal in the Scotland

Leading the way in progressive funeral practice protecting the environment for future generations 🍃💦
