Tick bites are increasingly common in the UK, and not just deep in the countryside.
Parks and gardens count too. Most are harmless, but ticks can occasionally transmit Lyme disease, so quick, proper removal matters.
To remove a tick:
✔️use fine-tipped tweezers or a tick tool,
✔️grasp it as close to the skin as possible, and
✔️pull upward with slow, steady pressure.
❌Do not twist, squeeze or burn it.
✔️Clean the area, then photograph it and note the date.
What to watch for in the following weeks: an expanding red or purple patch, which does not always look like a bull's-eye, or flu-like symptoms such as fever, tiredness or aches. If either appears, seek a review the same day. Early treatment is very effective.
