Yesterday I put my lecturer hat back on.
For the past six years, I’ve had the privilege of lecturing at the John Locke Institute which hosts Summer schools at Oxford & Princeton where some of the brightest young minds from around the world come together. Students will go on to study at Oxford, Cambridge and leading Ivy League universities.
This year’s lecture was Beyond Intelligence: The Hidden Psychology Behind Exceptional Performance.
We explored the part of the mind that so often determines success, but is rarely taught. The difference between the conscious and subconscious mind. Why fear shows up as a threat response before an exam, interview or high-pressure moment. And how elite performers use mental rehearsal to influence performance long before the moment arrives.
The message I wanted every student to leave with was simple: intelligence is only part of the equation. The way you think, the beliefs you hold, and the subconscious patterns running beneath the surface often have the greatest influence over how you perform.
Watching the room connect those dots was a reminder that exceptional performance isn’t just about what you know. It’s about understanding how your mind works.
Six years on, it’s still an honour. ✨👩🏼🎓
