An orange a day... could be doing more for your health than you think. 🍊

Oranges are best known for their vitamin C, but they're also packed with fibre, antioxidants and plant compounds that support your overall wellbeing.

While no single food can "balance" your hormones, eating a varied, nutrient-rich diet gives your body the building blocks it needs to function at its best. Vitamin C plays an important role in immune health, collagen production and protecting cells from oxidative stress, while the fibre in oranges helps support gut health and healthy blood sugar regulation—both of which are closely linked to hormone health.
It's a reminder that supporting your hormones doesn't have to be complicated.

Sometimes, it's as simple as making little choices/changes, one meal at a time 🍊

Modern life keeps us in a constant state of doing. We move from one task to the next, often without giving our minds or bodies a chance to slow down. Practices such as breathwork, meditation, sound healing and mindful movement are all about helping regulate the nervous system.

When we spend less time in "fight or flight", our bodies are better able to rest, repair and restore. While stress isn't the cause of every hormonal condition, chronic stress can influence sleep, energy, mood, menstrual cycles and many of the symptoms women experience during perimenopause and menopause.

As a doctor and healer, my work has evolved to hold women through their deepest transitions - not just with medicine, but with presence, intuition, and integrative care.

I create safe, grounded spaces where you can come home to yourself. Through breathwork, somatic healing tools, and guided integration, we work with your whole being - body, mind, spirit, and story - to help you release what no longer serves and step into your next chapter feeling lighter, clearer, and more whole.

FEATURED within Stylist ‘Think you’re losing your hair? 4 expert backed steps to take now to slow shedding and support regrowth’ discussing a topic that affects far more women than many people realise: hair loss.

One of the biggest misconceptions is that hair thinning only happens later in life. In reality, I'm seeing more and more younger women coming to clinic with concerns about increased shedding or a noticeable loss of hair density. Hair loss is rarely caused by just one thing—it can be influenced by hormones, stress, nutritional deficiencies, thyroid health, medications, genetics and underlying medical conditions, which is why it's so important to look at the bigger picture rather than searching for a quick fix.

Hair is often a reflection of what's happening inside the body, so my approach is always to investigate the root cause. A thorough assessment, including your medical history, symptoms and, where appropriate, blood tests, allows us to create a personalised treatment plan instead of simply treating the symptom.

Thank you to Stylist for helping to raise awareness that hair loss in women is common, valid and deserves compassionate, evidence-based care 🤍

Do you find yourself becoming a completely different person in the week or two before your period... only to feel like yourself again once it starts?
It could be more than "just hormones."

Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) is a severe hormone-related condition that affects around 1 in 20 women of reproductive age. While PMS can be frustrating, PMDD can have a profound impact on daily life, relationships and mental wellbeing.

PMDD symptoms typically appear during the luteal phase of your cycle (after ovulation), improve within a few days of your period starting, and are minimal or absent during the first half of your cycle.

If you notice this pattern month after month, it's worth tracking your symptoms for at least two menstrual cycles and speaking to a healthcare professional. There isn't a single blood test for PMDD—the diagnosis is based on your symptoms and when they occur.

The good news is that PMDD is a recognised medical condition, and there are effective ways to manage it. You don't have to simply "put up with it."
If this sounds familiar, know that you're not alone, and support is available.

This post is for education only and isn't a substitute for a medical assessment. If you're experiencing severe low mood or thoughts of harming yourself at any point in your cycle, seek urgent medical help immediately.

Before we blame your hormones alone, let's ask ourselves a few questions...
💤 "How's your sleep been lately?"
🥩 "Am I getting enough protein?"
😮‍💨 "How stressed have I actually been?"
🍷 "Has this week involved more wine than water?"
🏃‍♀️ "Am I recovering as much as I'm training?"

Our hormones are incredibly responsive. They're constantly taking in information from our sleep, nutrition, movement, stress levels and environment.

That doesn't mean poor habits cause every hormone problem. They don't. Conditions like PCOS, thyroid disorders, endometriosis and perimenopause are genuine medical conditions that deserve proper assessment and treatment.
But our lifestyle can influence how those hormones behave and, importantly, how we feel.

I often tell my patients that hormones are less like a switch and more like an orchestra. If one section is out of tune, the whole performance can sound different.

So before deciding your hormones have "given up," it can be worth looking at the bigger picture.

Hormone symptoms don't appear in isolation. They often coincide with what's happening in your life.

A big work deadline.
The school holidays.
Planning a wedding.
Moving house.
Caring for ageing parents.
Relationship changes.
Travelling.
Even the excitement of a long-awaited holiday.

We often think of stress as something purely emotional, but your body doesn't distinguish between "good" stress and "bad" stress. It simply recognises that it's being asked to adapt.

During these periods, it's not uncommon to notice changes in your menstrual cycle, increased fatigue, poorer sleep, digestive symptoms, more intense PMS, or worsening menopausal symptoms.
This doesn't mean your hormones are "broken." It means they're responding to the environment they're in.

Sometimes, supporting your hormones isn't about finding another supplement or trying the latest wellness trend. It's about recognising the season of life you're in and giving your body what it needs whether that's more rest, nourishing meals, better boundaries or simply a little more compassion.

Your hormones are constantly responding to the life you're living.
Do/have you notice changes around certain life events?

After years of practising medicine, one thing I've noticed is how often women apologise before telling me what's wrong.

They apologise for crying.
They apologise for asking questions.
They apologise for taking up time.
They apologise for not feeling well.
Many have spent years being told they're stressed, busy, hormonal, emotional, or simply expected to get on with it.

So if there's one thing I wish more women knew, it's this:
You don't need permission to talk about your health.
You don't need to prove that you're struggling enough.
And you certainly don't need to apologise for wanting to feel better.

Sometimes the most important thing I can do is create a space where you finally feel heard.

When was the last time you hugged a tree?
It might not sound like your usual sunday plans but tree hugging has real benefits:
Lowers cortisol (your stress hormone)
Regulates your nervous system
Boosts feelings of calm and connection
Grounds your energy - literally (the earth’s natural frequencies help balance your body)
Trees give off natural vibrations that our bodies actually respond to. Being close to them — even better, touching them — can slow your heart rate, clear your mind, and remind you that you’re part of something bigger.
Nature is the ultimate healer and tbh trees are better listeners than most people.

Ground yourself. Recharge. Hug it out.

Ramadan is almost here and I’ve had a few patients ask me how their fasting may addect their hormones so I thought I would do a post on this. 🌙

Fasting from dawn to sunset can influence changes in:
-Cortisol (stress + energy)
- Insulin (blood sugar balance)
-Thyroid function
-Female hormones + cycle regularity
-Testosterone (in both men and women)

For many, fasting improves insulin sensitivity and metabolic health. But disrupted sleep, large iftar meals, dehydration or existing hormonal imbalances can make symptoms feel more noticeable.

To support your body during Ramadan:
✨ Prioritise protein
✨ Balance your iftar (less sugar, more fibre + healthy fats)
✨ Hydrate well between sunset and dawn
✨ Protect your sleep
✨ Listen to your body

If you have PCOS, thyroid issues, perimenopause symptoms or are on hormone treatment, personalised support can make all the difference.
