They discuss an international study of 1,000 people living with sight loss that found nearly one in five reported encountering eye treatments they believed to be ‘bogus'. Most people encountered these treatment claims online. These findings highlight the need to help people identify evidence-based treatments and navigate health information with confidence.

This interactive session will explore what applicants need to do to meet research inclusion requirements, focusing on NIHR & HRA expectations.
Speakers:
Prof. Shaun Treweek: Shaun is a leading expert in pragmatic trial design, recruitment and retention, and inclusive research methods. He co-developed the NIHR INCLUDE Ethnicity Framework.
Associate Prof. Shoba Dawson: Shoba is an expert in inclusive research methods, with a focus on improving recruitment and retention of ethnic minority groups in trials. She leads the Trial Forge Inclusive Research Centre and has developed the Trial Forge 3 guidance on how to recruit and retain people from ethnic minority groups in clinical trials.

Researchers from the NIHR Biomedical Research Centres at Moorfields and Leicester are working together to deepen our understanding of inherited eye diseases. Many inherited eye conditions remain untreatable, but advances in genetic testing are transforming diagnosis and opening new avenues for future therapies.

The collaboration has delivered three published papers, including a landmark genetic study that shone new light on how the eye develops its sharpest vision.
