Bookings for this year’s flu vaccine are now open for those who are eligible.

Flu can be very serious for children, pregnant women, older adults, and those with long-term health conditions 🤧

Last year, it was estimated that the flu vaccine prevented 104,000 unnecessary hospitalisations.

Appointments are available from 1 September - if you’re eligible, you can now book your flu vaccination online or through the NHS App.

Search ‘NHS flu vaccine’ to find out more and book.

Getting critically ill patients to our major trauma centre in the fastest time possible is vital for our life-saving care.

For 12 years now, our helipad at St George’s Hospital has been bringing patients in life-threatening condition to our emergency department within minutes, so they can receive expert care from our major trauma teams.

This World Helicopter Day, we’re celebrating the contributions that air ambulances and our fantastic teams who operate them make, not least all of our health and safety and firefighting colleagues who support them.

The helipad at St George’s was officially opened in May 2014 by former Mayor of London Boris Johnson.

Jaundice is common in newborns and usually improves on its own with regular, responsive feeding or sometimes may need light therapy treatment.

Babies may develop jaundice because they have a high number of red blood cells that break down after birth, producing bilirubin.

The baby’s liver is still developing and may not be able to remove bilirubin quickly enough which causes it to build up in the blood, making the skin and eyes look yellow.

Jaundice may be hard to recognise so a check of the eyes, hand and feet colour is important, especially in black and brown babies where it may be more difficult to see.

One-day old Polly was born at St Helier weighing 8lbs 1oz and is being treated for jaundice with a ‘biliblanket’ which has a special blue light that helps break down bilirubin in her blood so it can be removed from her body naturally.

It is a safe and effective treatment for many babies with jaundice.

Polly's mum Laura said: "The care I have had at St Helier has been amazing. The midwives are all so lovely and explained every step of Polly's care."
