September is creeping closer… which means it’s nearly time for school uniforms, packed lunches and those earlier morning starts! 🎒✏️

Before the new term begins, there’s still time to tick one more thing off the summer holiday list — your child’s eye test. 👀

Whether their eye test is overdue or they’ve never had one before, the last few days of the summer holidays are a great opportunity to get their eyes checked before everyone is back into the school routine.

Children don’t always realise when they’re not seeing as clearly as they could — to them, the way they see is simply normal. And good vision is important for reading, learning, sport and everyday life.

At Page & Small, we’ve been looking after the eyes of local families for over 30 years — and in quite a few cases, we now look after the children of people who first came to see us as children themselves! 💛

NHS-funded eye tests are available for children under 16, and for young people under 19 in full-time education.

🎓 A-Level Results Day! 🎓

A huge congratulations to everyone receiving their A-Level results today! 🌟

Whatever is written on that piece of paper, we hope you’re proud of everything you’ve achieved and that today brings you the next step you were hoping for — whether that’s university, an apprenticeship, work, a gap year or something completely different. 💛

We’re also allowed a little proud family moment today… 😊

Many of you will know Alice — Abi’s daughter and Ray’s granddaughter — who has been a familiar face on our reception desk on Saturdays and during the school holidays over the last few years.

We’re incredibly proud to say that Alice has achieved some amazing results and will be heading off to the University of York in September! 🎉🎓

We’re going to miss having her around the practice quite so much, but we’re very excited to see what this next chapter brings.

Congratulations Alice — and congratulations to all of our patients and families celebrating today! 💛

💛 A little update from us…

We’re making a small change to our opening hours over the summer. From this week (w/c 20th July), we’ll be trialling closing on Wednesdays.

Running an independent family NHS and Private opticians has never been easy, particularly at a time when the cost of providing NHS eye care continues to rise while NHS funding has remained unchanged for several years. Over the last few months, we’ve been taking a really good look at how we can continue providing the level of care you know and trust in a sustainable way for many years to come.

This wasn’t a decision we made lightly. In fact, we’ve spent a lot of time looking at appointment demand, phone calls and patient visits to make sure that, if we were going to trial a closure, we chose the day that would have the least impact on our patients. Wednesday consistently came out as our quietest day.

In the short term, this gives us a little more flexibility over the summer months, when annual leave can be a challenge for a small team.

Longer term, our hope is that by concentrating our team and resources into five days instead of spreading ourselves across six, we’ll be able to offer an even better service. That means more availability for glasses fitting and collection appointments, more contact lens tuition appointments, more time to help you choose your glasses, fewer missed phone calls, and a more sustainable practice for the future.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on how the trial works for both our patients and our team before making any long-term decisions.

Every appointment you book, every recommendation you make and every kind word you share helps us continue doing what we love. We never take that support for granted, and we’re so grateful to be part of this wonderful community. 💛

⚽ Early Closing Notice ⚽

Like many of you, we’re looking forward to cheering on England on Wednesday as they progress to the knockout stages of the FIFA World Cup 2026 🌎🏆⚽

To give our team the chance to enjoy the match together with our families, the practice will be closing a little earlier at 4:00pm on Wednesday 1st July.

We’ll be back bright and early, reopening at 9:15am on Thursday as usual.

✨ A little update from the SightCare Awards… ✨

Sadly, Elaine and Sara didn’t take home the Heart of the Practice award last night — and yes, I’d be lying if I said there wasn’t a little disappointment.

But more than anything, I feel incredibly proud. To have made it to the final two alongside such worthy entrants is something really special in itself.

I nominated Elaine and Sara together because I simply couldn’t separate them. Their bond, their loyalty, and the way they quietly hold everything together is what makes our practice what it is. They support each other through life as much as work, they care deeply about every patient, and they bring kindness, laughter and calm to even the busiest days. In our eyes, they will always be the heart of our practice — and always our winners 💛

Last night was a fantastic evening spent with friends old and new, celebrating everything that makes independent practice so special.

And today at the conference, the team have continued to do us proud — networking, learning, pushing themselves out of their comfort zones, and growing in confidence. We’re travelling back inspired, with new ideas for products, services and small tweaks to make the patient journey even better.

I’m so proud to call these girls my team — and my friends.
