Could you have scoliosis without knowing it? 🤔

Scoliosis often develops gradually, and many people don’t realise they have it until they notice changes in the way their body looks.

Here are 4 common signs to look out for:
🔹 One shoulder sits higher than the other
🔹 One side of your waist appears more indented
🔹 One side of your ribs looks more prominent
🔹 One shoulder blade sticks out more than the other

Having one or more of these signs doesn’t automatically mean you have scoliosis, but it’s worth getting assessed by a healthcare professional if you’re concerned. Early assessment can help you understand what’s going on and discuss the most appropriate management options. Scoliosis SOS can help you!

Have you ever noticed any of these signs? Let us know in the comments below 👇

Over the years, we’ve supported 5,578 patients from 95+ countries, giving us valuable knowledge about the people who seek specialist scoliosis care.

Some interesting facts from our data:

-Patients have travelled to us from more than 95 countries.
-Ages range from 2-92 years old. Most are aged 18 to 49.
-Nearly half came to us with severe scoliosis.
-Many patients found a non-surgical alternative to spinal surgery following an individual assessment.

Behind every statistic is a life changed. Every patient has their own experience, which is why assessment and treatment should always be based on individual needs rather than assumptions.

If you’re living with scoliosis and would like to understand your options, we’re here to help.

🎓 Student Spotlight: Leah Dennehy

We’re delighted to celebrate former placement student Leah Dennehy, who recently completed her MSc in Physiotherapy and presented her research exploring the role of Schroth-based physiotherapy in contemporary scoliosis management.

During her placement at Scoliosis SOS, Leah had the opportunity to observe specialist assessments, rehabilitation sessions and our classification-based approach to scoliosis care. Her research critically explored how Schroth-based training can influence patient outcomes, professional development and the evolving role of specialist physiotherapy.

Her findings highlighted the potential benefits of Schroth-based rehabilitation, including:
✔️ Improving quality of life
✔️ Enhancing postural awareness
✔️ Supporting patient self-management
✔️ Helping to reduce curve progression in appropriate patients

Reflecting on her placement, Leah spoke about how working alongside our specialist team strengthened her understanding of evidence-based scoliosis care and reinforced the importance of combining clinical expertise with compassionate, patient-centred practice.

Congratulations, Leah, on your fantastic achievement. We wish you every success in your physiotherapy career and look forward to seeing the positive impact you’ll continue to make. 👏

This Father’s Day weekend, we’re celebrating all the dads, stepdads, grandads, father figures, and carers who support someone living with scoliosis.

Whether you’re navigating your own scoliosis journey, helping your child through a diagnosis, attending appointments, asking questions, or simply being a steady source of encouragement, your impact matters more than you may realise.

Scoliosis doesn’t just affect the individual, it affects families too. Behind every young person facing challenges with confidence and resilience is often a parent, carer, or mentor providing support, reassurance, and strength.

Today, we recognise the patience, dedication, and love you bring to that journey.

From all of us at Scoliosis SOS, thank you for everything you do. Wishing you a very Happy Father’s Day in advance. 💙
