Choosing a local, independent optician can make a real difference to the care you receive.

We have looked after patients in our communities for generations. Our Sevenoaks and Bexleyheath branches opened in 1915 and 1928 respectively, meaning many of the families we see have been coming to us for years, and we often look after parents, children and grandparents within the same family.

Seeing the same local team over time means we get to know you. That continuity helps us give you care that is thorough, personal and never rushed.

Do your eyes need regular examinations if everything seems fine?
It is one of the most common questions we hear, and a very fair one.

Many changes to the eyes happen slowly. Your prescription can shift so gradually that you adapt without noticing, and some conditions, such as glaucoma, often have no symptoms in the early stages.

An eye examination looks at far more than how well you read the letter chart. It checks the health of the eye itself and can sometimes pick up signs linked to general health conditions, such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

Most adults are advised to have an examination every two years, or more often if your optometrist recommends it.

Glasses that keep slipping, pinching or sitting unevenly do not always need replacing.

Sometimes a professional adjustment is enough to restore the fit and make them comfortable again.

But if the frame is stretched, damaged, badly worn or no longer works with your prescription and day-to-day needs, it may be time to consider a new pair.

The important thing is not to keep putting up with glasses that feel wrong.

If your glasses are no longer fitting as they should, bring them into your nearest practice. The team can assess whether an adjustment or repair is likely to help, or whether it is time for a new pair.

Children do not always realise their vision is different from everyone else’s.

They may sit close to the television, avoid reading, complain of headaches, struggle to see the board or simply appear to lose concentration. None of these signs proves there is an eyesight problem, but they are worth paying attention to.

And even if your child appears to see well, it is still worth making sure they have an eye examination before they start school. Poor vision is not always obvious, and children do not always complain if something is not quite right.

A full sight test can check how clearly your child sees, how their eyes work together and whether their eyes are developing as expected. Children do not need to be able to read letters or explain what they can see to be examined.

If short-sightedness is identified, our team can also explain whether a Myopia Progression Assessment and myopia management may be appropriate.

Jodie and Joanna, our Branch Managers at Sevenoaks and Chislehurst, headed into London last week for a Safilo and BOSS Eyewear meet and greet at the BOSS Regent Street store.

It was a chance to see the latest BOSS Eyewear collection up close, hear more about the new designs and spend an evening immersed in the brand, with special guest Eberechi Eze joining the event too.

Supplier events like this are useful for our team. They give us the chance to look closely at new shapes, colours, materials and details before deciding what could work well for our patients back in practice.

And, we also had a lot of fun too!

A lovely evening and plenty of eyewear inspiration to bring back to Linklater & Warren.

12 years in Chislehurst, with plenty more to come.

There is lots happening at our Chislehurst practice at the moment, including the current renovations, and we are looking forward to what comes next.

Since opening in 2014, there have been plenty of eye examinations and new glasses, of course. But looking through the photos, there has also been a lot of fun.

Summer fairs, pumpkin hunts, Christmas celebrations, team days, Great British Bake Off challenges, staff milestones, community events, awards, modelling frames and more than a few reasons to get everyone together.

Some of these memories are very Chislehurst, others are moments shared with the wider Linklater & Warren team. All of them remind us how lucky we are to have such a lovely team around us.

A huge thank you to everyone who has been part of our Chislehurst team over the past 12 years, past and present, and to all our patients and the wider Chislehurst community too.

We have loved being part of local events, from summer fairs and pumpkin hunts to Chislehurst Thrives, and getting to know so many families over the years.

There is plenty more to look forward to, and we are excited for the next chapter in Chislehurst.
