We talk a lot about sun cream, hats and keeping children covered in the summer.
But eyes need protection too.

UV exposure can increase the risk of long-term eye problems, including cataracts and macular degeneration, so good sunglasses are not just about comfort. They are part of looking after your eye health.

And you do not need to wear glasses to come in and see us. We also have a range of non-prescription sunglasses across our practices in Chislehurst, Sevenoaks and Bexleyheath.

Whether you need prescription sunglasses, everyday sun protection, or something for holidays, driving or outdoor sport, pop in and have a look.

There is rarely just one reason for choosing a new pair of glasses.

Perhaps you want something easy to wear every day. A frame that feels a little bolder than your usual choice. Or simply something that looks and feels more like you.

Our team can help you explore different shapes, colours and styles, while also making sure your frames work with your prescription and fit comfortably.

Because the right pair should do more than look good on the shelf. They should feel right when you put them on.

Visit us in Chislehurst, Sevenoaks or Bexleyheath to explore the collection.

Myth: If I can see well enough, I don’t need an eye test.
Fact: A Linklater & Warren eye examination is about much more than whether you need new glasses.

As well as checking your vision, we look at the health of your eyes in more detail, using advanced scans and imaging to help spot changes early.

A lot can change gradually, which is why regular eye examinations still matter, even if your sight seems fine.

If it’s been a while since your last one, it may be time to book in.

A second pair is does not have to be a luxury.
Most people think about glasses as one main pair, but real life is rarely that tidy.

You might need glasses for work.
A pair that feels easier for driving.
Prescription sunglasses for bright days.
A backup pair for the moment your everyday glasses disappear somewhere, usually five minutes before you need to leave the house.

And then there is the bigger picture: keeping up with regular eye care, checking eye health properly and making sure your lenses still suit what you need day to day.

VisionPlan is designed to make ongoing eye care more manageable. It gives patients a simpler way to stay on top of regular care, while also helping with eyewear costs.

It can be especially useful if you like to plan ahead, need more than one pair, or simply want the reassurance of knowing your eye care is being looked after consistently.

If you have been meaning to ask whether VisionPlan would suit you, our teams can talk you through it clearly.

Itchy eyes are not always “just hay fever”.
At this time of year, red, watery or itchy eyes are very common. Pollen can definitely play a part, and for many people hay fever is the obvious trigger.

But it is not the only possible cause.

Dry eye, contact lens irritation, eyelid inflammation or other surface issues can also make eyes feel sore, gritty, watery or uncomfortable.

That is why it is worth paying attention to the pattern.

Do your eyes feel worse after screen use?
Are they gritty as well as itchy?
Do they water even though they feel dry?
Are your symptoms coming back again and again?

A few simple things may help, such as avoiding rubbing your eyes, using cold compresses, keeping windows closed when pollen is high and asking for advice before reaching for drops that may not be right for the cause.

If your symptoms are persistent, uncomfortable or affecting your vision, it is worth getting them checked properly.

The right advice starts with understanding what is actually going on.

Some children should be tested earlier.

If there is a family history of squint, lazy eye, or strong glasses in childhood, if your child was born prematurely, has special educational needs or developmental delays, or if you have noticed anything unusual, it is sensible to book a sight test sooner rather than later.

Even if none of these apply, routine eye examinations are still important for all children.

If in doubt, book a sight test. You do not need a referral, and you do not need to wait for school screening.

A seasonal refresh does not have to mean choosing the brightest frame in the room or going for something wildly different just because the weather has improved.

Sometimes it is simply about finding something lighter, softer or easier to wear with the clothes you reach for most at this time of year.

The right frame should feel good on your face, suit your colouring, work with your prescription and still feel like you when you put it on.

Our teams spend time helping patients choose frames that suit their face, their lenses and their day-to-day life. Because a beautiful frame still has to work properly.

If you are ready for a summer refresh, we can help you find something that feels considered, comfortable and easy to wear.

We talk a lot about sun cream, hats and keeping children hydrated in summer.
But children’s eyes need protecting too.

At this time of year, children often spend longer outside, whether that’s in the garden, at the park, on holiday or playing sport. Sunglasses with proper UV protection and a hat or cap can help make bright days more comfortable.

It is also a useful time to notice how your child is using their eyes.

Are they squinting more than usual?
Sitting very close to screens or books?
Complaining of headaches?
Rubbing their eyes a lot?
Avoiding reading, writing or drawing?

Children do not always know how to explain that their vision feels different. Often, they simply adapt.

And a children’s eye test is not something to worry about. Children do not need to be able to read letters to have their eyes examined.

If you have noticed something, or you are not sure when your child last had a full eye examination, it may be worth getting them checked.

"It’s not bad enough for a hearing test yet.”

We hear this a lot.

Usually from people who are turning the TV up, struggling in busy places, or quietly getting tired of asking people to repeat themselves.

A hearing test doesn’t commit you to anything. It simply gives you a clearer idea of what’s going on.

Sometimes reassurance is all you need. Sometimes earlier support makes a real difference day to day.

Either way, it’s better to know than keep working around it.

Prefer to keep on top of things, rather than wait until something becomes a hassle?

That’s exactly why many patients choose VisionPlan.

It’s a simple way to spread the cost of regular eye care while making it easier to stay on top of appointments and ongoing support.

For some people, it’s about peace of mind. For others, it’s about making regular care feel more manageable and less easy to put off.

If you like the idea of having your eye care planned out a little more simply, VisionPlan could be worth a look.

Ask in practice or get in touch and we’ll talk you through it.
