Set up to protect the public, we are a UK-wide regulator of 15 health and care professions.

We currently regulate 15 professions:
arts therapists, biomedical scientists, chiropodists / podiatrists, clinical scientists, dietitians, hearing aid dispensers, occupational therapists, operating department practitioners, orthoptists, paramedics, physiotherapists, practitioner psychologists, prosthetists / orthotists, radiographers as well as and speech and language therapists.

Their work goes far beyond routine foot care. Podiatrists help prevent complications associated with diabetes, support mobility and balance, and enable people to remain active and independent throughout their lives.

For our spotlight is on Tadala, a kidney dietitian who once thought her heritage might be a weakness.

But working with African Caribbean patients, who are disproportionately affected by kidney disease, Tadala realised her heritage was the key to improving their care.

We’re delighted to welcome Sophia Bourne as our Professional Liaison Consultant for Scotland.

Sophia joins us from the University of Leeds where she combined co-leading a professional skills initiative across the curriculum with teaching medical students on professionalism and patient safety.

She has also been the Learning and Development Consultant for the British Medical Association, has written for BMJ publications and built a suite of online professional learning resources for BMJ Learning Learning.

She has a Master’s in Occupational Psychology from Birkbeck, University of London and coaching qualifications, and is passionate about supporting personal and professional effectiveness in the workplace.

As Professional Liaison Consultant for Scotland, Sophia is looking forward to working with colleagues in the General Medical Council (GMC) and Nursing And Midwifery Council, NHS Boards, service providers and education providers across Scotland.

Sophia grew up near Edinburgh, and now that she’s back in Scotland, she’s looking forward to brushing up on her rather rusty Gaelic speaking skills.

These revisions will help education providers 🏫 deliver a high-quality educational experience.

They'll help graduates 👩‍🎓 gain the skills and knowledge to deliver safe, effective care.
