Over more than 230 years of arranging funerals in North London, we've helped families create send-offs that looked nothing like the standard format, and were all the more meaningful for it. Losing someone you love is one of the hardest things a person can go through. Whatever your relationship with the person who has died, and however they died, the grief that follows is real, valid, and entirely your own. There is no right way to feel, and there is no set timeline for how long it lasts.

Receiving these words in an email to funeral directors Kathryn and Kirsty mean everything to us. They validate our work and the reason we do it. Knowing we do make a difference to people's lives day in and day out is why we are here.

"I just wanted to take a moment on behalf of the family to say a massive thank you to you both for everything you have done for us throughout such an incredibly difficult time.

From the very beginning, you have both been so kind, caring, understanding and supportive. Your care and compassion made everything so much easier for us and took away so much of the pressure and worry during what has been an incredibly heartbreaking time for our family.

Yesterday was such a difficult and emotional day, but you both handled everything with such professionalism, dignity and genuine care. You made sure everything was perfect for him, and we honestly couldn't have asked for a more beautiful and respectful farewell for him.

The care and attention you gave to him and to all of us meant more than you will ever know. At a time when we were surrounded by so much sadness and darkness, you somehow helped us see even just a little bit of light.

We feel incredibly lucky to have met two such wonderful people. Your kindness, compassion and genuine warmth made such a difference to us, and we will always remember how you helped us through one of the hardest times of our lives.

We welcome today's announcement of a new statutory entitlement to bereavement leave.

This is an important step forward in recognising that people need time and space to grieve, without the additional pressure of having to return immediately to work.

We’re particularly pleased to see pregnancy loss before 24 weeks recognised within the new entitlement, alongside a wider range of family relationships. This reflects the reality that grief can be experienced differently by different people and family dynamics.

We’re proud to have played a part in campaigning for this change. Bereavement leave can make a real difference to people at an incredibly difficult time, helping them to have the space they need to grieve while navigating the practical realities of everyday life.
