Meet Louiegi Iglesias, our Infection Prevention and Control Lead Nurse.

Louiegi started her journey at The London Clinic as a healthcare assistant before becoming a registered nurse and moving into infection prevention and control, a speciality she describes as “never boring”.

From supporting patient safety across every part of the hospital to helping achieve Aseptic Non-Touch Technique Gold Accreditation, Louiegi’s work shows our values in action every day: we go further, we work as one, and we personalise care.

Today is Clean Air Day and in this Q&A, The London Clinic’s Consultant in respiratory medicine, Dr Ricardo Jose, discusses how air pollution affects health.

Dr Jose says, "When air quality is poor, people should pay attention to how they feel, especially if they start coughing, feel tightness or pain in the chest, become short of breath, or notice irritation in their eyes, nose or throat. It can also make asthma, COPD worse, leading to exacerbations."

This month Jason Smith takes on the 3:2:1 Cycle Challenge – cycling 320km around Mont Blanc, through three countries, with 8,000m of elevation, to raise funds to support cancer patients and to honour his childhood best friend, Dave.

The funds will help cancer patients at The London Clinic’s oncology ‘Quiet Room’, a vital space for patients and family and friends.

Jason, who co-hosts the Midlife Athlete podcast, invited The London Clinic’s Clinical Psychologist Dr Rupalis Kulshreshtha, to discuss why many of us turn to extreme physical feats in the wake of loss and how athletes can navigate their own mortality.

World Blood Donor Day (June 14) is a global tribute to the millions of voluntary, unpaid blood donors whose generosity saves lives every day.

Did you know about 118.54 million blood donations are collected worldwide?

Blood transfusion saves lives and improves health, but many patients requiring transfusion do not have timely access to safe blood. Providing safe and adequate blood should be an integral part of every country’s national health care policy and infrastructure.

We’d like to say thank you to all the volunteers who give blood – your contributions are essential to health systems everywhere, supporting patients during emergencies, childbirth, surgeries, cancer treatment and the lifelong care of many serious conditions.

This week is Men’s Health Week. It was great to support our local community at a free health fitness drop-in for men living and working around the Harley Street area in Marylebone.

Attendees enjoyed fitness and stretch sessions and access to AMP Gym’s contrast therapy room, including a sauna and ice bath, offering an introduction to hot and cold recovery therapies and their wellbeing benefits. Thanks to and for also supporting.

The London Clinic’s Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon David Gordon, , specialising in foot and ankle surgery, was on hand to give informal advice about running injuries.

And Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner, gave advice and support.

World-leading robotic urology surgeon, Professor Prokar Dasgupta, who leads The London Clinic’s Robotic Centre of Excellence, has co-authored an article on robotics in the Frontiers in Science open access science journal.

The article, ‘Evolving surgical teams in the age of artificial intelligence and robotics’ explores the current state of surgical AI and robotic systems, research challenges and the ethical and regulatory implications.

In March, Professor Dasgupta OBE, performed the UK’s first remote telesurgery between The London Clinic and St Bernard’s Hospital in Gibraltar.

It was fantastic to support our local community this week at a free health fitness drop-in for men living and working around the Harley Street area, to mark Men’s Health Awareness Week taking place this month.

The event at AMP Gym in Marylebone – run in conjunction with Harley Street BID – had running, recovery and expert health advice for men. Thanks also to John Croyden & Bell for their support.

The London Clinic’s Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon David Gordon, specialising in foot and ankle surgery, was on hand to give informal advice about running injuries.

And Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner, Federico Febbraro gave physio advice and support.
