Yoga bridge vs. Pilates bridge! The difference between these two has been a revelation for my Yogalates teacher trainees - especially those with lower back pain.

✔️ Yoga Bridge: a backbend that can easily become focused mainly into the lower-back if your hip flexors are tight (many people’s are)

✔️Pilates Bridge: ski slope shape with a posterior pelvic tilt to fire up the glutes and hamstrings while keeping the lower back and hip flexors lengthened.

Both are valid, but if your goal is to build glute and hamstring strength, Pilates Bridge wins. It’s kinder to the lower back and easy to progress with weights, bands, and variations. 🔥

“Pull your navel to your spine.”

Here’s the problem with that:

Your core isn’t designed to work through constant gripping and squeezing.

In fact, consciously drawing the belly in can interfere with the natural pressure system that creates true core stability.

The deep core works as part of a coordinated system involving the diaphragm, pelvic floor, abdominal wall, fascia, and the breath, not through forcefully holding your stomach in!

When we understand how intra-abdominal pressure actually works, we can help students access more support, more strength, and better movement efficiency.

That’s exactly what I teach inside my pre-recorded 2-hour workshop ‘Core Connection’.

St Mary’s Church, Long Ditton, is one of my favourite Yogalates locations at the moment. The bluebells have been absolutely stunning this season, adding to the peaceful feel of our classes. ✌️

After Saturday’s class, we enjoyed a lovely brunch together in the sunshine ☀️ the perfect way to round off a morning of movement and connection.

Combined with a wonderful community of supportive and welcoming ladies, it makes every session a real joy.

I know we’re all short on time, and fitting in Pilates, yoga, weights, and everything else can be a challenge which is exactly why I love combining them.

I find it so difficult to sleep in the heat! 👀

A cooling Yin is my go to pre-bedtime routine.

Tomorrow I’ll be LIVE on the Yogalates London App (Wednesday at 8:45pm) for a restful practice with gentle bends, nourishing twists, and grounding shapes low to the floor to help calm the nervous system and prepare for deep rest.
