On Friday, we said a heartbreaking but deeply proud goodbye to a true pillar of our community, Canon Alan McLean.
As the long-serving Parish Priest of The Most Holy Trinity Church, Dockhead, for over thirty years, Alan was a South Londoner through and through. He was rightly described as "a priest for all people"— always there for families exactly when they needed him most. He was loved, cherished, and respected by so many across Bermondsey and the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Southwark.
To us, Alan was also a truly dear friend. He shared a deep bond with our father, Barry Albin Dyer, and was an incredible support to Simon, Jon, and the whole Albins family during and after Barry's passing. We are all deeply saddened by his loss.
It was a highly emotional day for Simon, Jon, and the entire team, but it was our ultimate privilege to look after Alan and his lovely family. From carrying him into the church for Thursday's Parish Mass, to his final resting place following Friday's beautiful Requiem Mass led by Archbishop John Wilson, we ensured he received the fitting send-off he so richly deserved.
The void left at Dockhead will be impossible to fill, but his spirit will live on through the incredible people of Dockhead and Bermondsey.
Rest in peace, Canon Alan. Thank you for everything.
