Our staff deal with physical violence and verbal abuse from patients, visitors and the public every day.

Through our No Excuse for Abuse campaign, we are asking everyone to treat our colleagues with kindness and respect.

Nursing Sister Jess and security manager Ike spoke to BBC London about their experiences of aggressive and abusive behaviour from patients.

Last weekend saw over 100 Trust transplant patients and volunteers head up to Sheffield for the annual Transplant Games where they scooped up dozens of medals.

Teams from Evelina London, Guy's and Harefield hospitals took part in a huge range of events from cycling, racquet sports and swimming to running and archery.

The Evelina London Very Important Penguins (named after the kidney and urology Penguin Ward at the hospital) won an unbelievable 46 medals, including 15 golds as well as winning 'Best Kidney Team' for the second year in a row.

9 year old Evelina London patient Roman Russell took part in his first Transplant Games this year. After receiving a kidney transplant aged just 4, his mum Ashleigh was thrilled that they were able to go up and take part.

"He's been through so much and he's so brace so I'm just excited for him to show everyone what he's capable of".

It wasn't just the VIPs making a mark at the games either. Harefield team member David Webb is so enthused about the Games he wrote this year's anthem for the whole event.

"I wrote Fanfare and Overture as a gift to the Games and to celebrate what organ donation makes possible."

"The Games are just an amazing celebration of this incredible community."

Funding for the VIPs travel and accommodation was generously provided by Evelina London Children's Charity - thank you them and all the volunteers, patients and donors who made last weekend so amazing.

Their Royal Highnesses, the Prince and Princess of Wales, chose Evelina London Children's Charity as one of the beneficiaries of this year's DMMI Royal Charity Polo Cup.

The Princess of Wales became a Patron of Evelina London in 2018. Since then, she has championed the work of Evelina London and its specialist teams who care for children with some of the most complex and serious health conditions from across south east England and beyond.

Funds raised at the match will go directly towards the future children's cancer Principal Treatment Centre at Evelina London. It will help provide equipment, enhanced patient and family spaces, specialist facilities and innovations that improve the experience of care.

Gubby Ayida, chief executive of Evelina London attended the event. She said: “We are enormously grateful to Their Royal Highnesses and everyone who contributed to the success of this fantastic day. It was a privilege to represent Evelina London alongside other wonderful charitable organisations.

“For Evelina London to be recognised through this event is a real honour and an opportunity to showcase the difference charitable support makes for children and families. These funds will go directly towards the future children’s cancer Principal Treatment Centre at Evelina London.”

Eating well and taking care of yourself is central to a healthy life.

That's why healthy living practitioner Nehal Koradia and her team work with our local communities to promote nutrition education, exercise and positive behaviours.

"The most rewarding part of my job is seeing the impact our support has on people’s lives. Watching patients make meaningful changes, grow in confidence, and progress through their journey to living healthier is incredibly fulfilling."

Working out of a range of spaces, from churches to community centres, they ensure that people across South East London have the ability to improve their health and live fuller lives.

"This job has taught me a lot about the importance of noticing and celebrating the small but meaningful moments of impact."

We asked Poppy, an Evelina London community speech and language therapist, what she loves most about her job.

"I work in the schools team, supporting children and young people in primary and secondary schools across Lambeth and Southwark, as well as those who receive home schooling.

I'm particularly passionate about helping secondary school-aged children understand their own communication strengths and needs and become more confident in advocating for themselves. This often involves supporting them to understand their identity in relation to neurodivergence.

The school summer holidays are always a great opportunity for me and my team to catch up on service development projects and think about how we can continue to improve the support we offer.

We're working on a project linked to the government's Experts at Hand initiative, exploring how we can continue to make our specialist knowledge widely accessible to support children, young people and schools.

The people in my team are lovely to work with and they have a huge amount of experience to learn from. What I value most is the team's friendly and welcoming culture and the real sense that you can be yourself."
