I try not to ask "do you think you might have PCOS" but there are a few things I notice and quietly wonder about.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸปExtra hair along the jaw or chin
๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸปA scalp parting that looks a little wider
๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸปAcne along the jawline
๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸปDarker patches of skin at the back of the neck
๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸปWeight sitting mostly around the middle
๐Ÿ‘‰A skin tag or two near the neck or underarms

These dont necessarily confirm anything on their own. However when I see 2 or 3 of these together, I do wonder if the person is aware of this hormonal issue. Speaking of hormones...

๐ŸŽฏPlease join me for a free Female Hormone Masterclass, live end of September.

Can you find fruit & veges without plastic wrapping? Let me know in the comments below. ๐Ÿ‘‡

Plastic is an endocrine disruptor.. meaning it can block, mimic or interfere with hormone signalling. Choose plastic free packaging when you can.

I was asked this question this week so I wanted to discuss periods and hormones as it can vary substantially. So here it is in one place. Best to save it.

Cycle length, bleed length, and regularity all follow their own separate ranges.

Cycle length, counted from the first day of one period to the first day of the next, is classed as normal between 24 and 38 days by the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics, FIGO, the body doctors worldwide use for these definitions.

Bleed length has its own separate range, 4.5 to 8 days, with a typical mean of 4 to 5 days.

Regularity is different again, measured by how much your cycle length varies month to month over a year.

FIGO classes this as regular if your shortest and longest cycle differ by 7 days or less (ages 26 to 41) or 9 days or less (ages 18 to 25 and 42 to 45).

Irregularity itself can come from a range of things, stress, thyroid function, perimenopause, and PMOS among them.

The World Health Organization estimates that 10 to 13% of women globally have PMOS, though up to 70% remain undiagnosed. PMOS often comes with hair loss, jawline acne, facial hair to name a few.

It's also worth knowing that cycles can take up to seven years after your first period to fully settle into that adult pattern, as the hormonal signalling behind ovulation matures.

Follow along for more gut and hormone health.

๐ŸŽฏ SAVE this to track your own period against these ranges.

Many clients come for weight issues then they realise I work with all their other issues too, from low energy, acne, irregular or heavy periods, hip pain, pmos, constipation or diarrhoea, you name it. That's where I start, not just with your weight. That follows naturally. ๐ŸŒฟ

This is me being honest about who I am as a practitioner.

There is no single diet that works for everyone, and I will never pretend there is. ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ

Suffering with symptoms and telling yourself it's probably normal and nothing you can do, is something I dont accept for my clients.

Knowledge is the thing I love handing back to women. Understanding your own body or symptoms changes everything. ๐Ÿ’›

I am also just a person. Bit lazy with putting on make up, always craving travel, a good glass of w**e paired with food I actually enjoy. Exercise is still a work in progress.

๐ŸŽฏ If this sounds like your thing, follow along for more.
What is one thing you would like to know more about? If you've got this far, please let me know๐Ÿ‘‡

Sardinia is one of the original Blue Zones, a place where an unusually high number of people live past 100. After a day there it is easy to see why.

The food was simple and mostly grown or made by hand. Vegetables from the garden, sheep's cheese from a neighbour, pasta rolled that morning. Mineral rich Cannonau w**e poured from bottles made by the same families locally for generations.

None of the villages I visited were flat. Every day involved steep hills and rugged mountain paths, woven into ordinary life rather than a gym session. Movement was simply how you got to the shop, the church, a friend's house.

And then there was the community. In one village there's a centre where women still gather to weave tapestry art, a tradition made famous by the artist Maria Lai, selling what they make together. She's also the one behind the blue ribbon project, where ribbons were strung between houses to connect the whole village, literally and symbolically. That sense of shared life and shared work seems to matter as much as anything on the plate.

Reaching 100 here isnโ€™t because of food and diet alone. It looks like a whole way of living, stitched together over a lifetime.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Have you ever been to a Blue Zone? Tell me where. Or is it on your bucket list?
