The cultural conversation around ADHD still relies on the image of a distracted child who cannot sit still.

For adults living with ADHD — particularly those diagnosed later in life — that pictures misses what is often the most painful part entirely.

It is not the focus. It is the emotional intensity.

Feelings do not arrive slowly. A minor criticism at work can trigger a sense of failure that feels final. A small change in plans can bring on sudden, overwhelming frustration. The joy is just as intense: it can be wonderful, and exhausting, in equal measure.

Many adults with ADHD spend an enormous amount of energy performing okayness. Masking the internal experience to appear collected and professional. That performance is unsustainable. It leads, quietly, to burnout, anxiety, and a particular kind of loneliness.

This week’s blog explores what is actually happening neurologically, what therapy offers that is not about fixing or calming down, and what it means to build a wider container for feelings you have always had.

You are very good at holding space for other people.

But when was the last time someone held it for you?

On the 13th and 14th of June, I am running a two-day retreat for anyone whose work involves sitting with other people’s distress. Therapists, teachers, doctors, lawyers, coaches. No equine experience needed. No performance required.

Just two days with horses, with peers who speak the same language, and with enough quiet to exhale.

Details linked in my bio.

Everyone around you seems to know where they are going.

The job, the plan, the direction. And you feel stuck wondering when that feeling will arrive for you.

The honest truth is that most of them don’t know either. They’re playing the same performance, just in a different costume.

Navigate Collective is for the ones who are tired of performing. A facilitated group for young adults aged 15 to 23 who are in the in-between. Not therapy. Not a course. A room where you don’t have to have it all figured out to step in.

The September cohort is open. Link in my bio.

Nobody actually told you what comes after the timetable disappears.

For years, someone else decided where you went and what you were doing. And when that finally stopped, everyone seemed to have a plan and direction.

If you felt like the only one still figuring out who you are — you’re not alone. That feeling is one of the most common, but unnamed, parts of this life stage.

Navigate Collective is a facilitated group for young adults aged 15 to 23 who are in this in-between. It’s not therapy, it isn’t a course. It’s a space where you can figure it out as you go.

Applications for the September cohort are open. Link in my bio.

Not fixing. Not advising. Not being told what to do or who to be.

Just a room where you don’t have to explain yourself from the beginning. Where the people around you already understand something about what this life stage feels like — because they are in it too.

That is what Navigate Collective is.

If you have been carrying the weight of figuring it out alone, this is worth looking at. The September cohort is open and the link in my bio has everything you need to know.

Not every young person who is struggling needs therapy. Some need something different.

They need a room full of people their own age who are in the same position. Who are also figuring it out. Where they don’t have to explain themselves from scratch or perform for the adults in the room.

Three things I hear from parents before they reach out about the Navigate Collective:

1. They’ve stopped talking to us the way they used to, and I don’t know how to reach them.
2. The comparison with peers is relentless, and it’s affecting everything.
3. My teenager seems fine on the surface, but something feels off and I can’t name it.

If any of that sounds familiar, the programme information and application details are in the link in my bio. Applications for the September cohort is open.

It doesn’t always look dramatic. Sometimes it looks like being fine.

It looks like being capable, dependable, the one who holds things together. The one who has, by all appearances, already dealt with it.

Trauma doesn’t always announce itself. Sometimes it arrives as a flatness that has been there so long you have stopped noticing it. Or a restlessness that never quite resolves. Or the strange exhaustion of performing okayness when something underneath is still very much present.

None of this requires a dramatic story or a clinical diagnosis. It requires acknowledgement — and often, a space designed to hold it properly.

If something in this resonates, the link in my bio has more on how I work.

The expectation was that leaving school would feel like freedom. For a lot of people, it didn’t.

If you’re somewhere between 15 and 23, and you feel like you’ve lost your footing— not exactly depressed, not exactly anxious, just untethered— that has a name. And it’s far more common than anyone tells you.

The Navigate Collective is a group programme built for this life stage. Not therapy. Not a course. A facilitated space where you don’t have to have it figured out to show up.

🗓️ Applications are open for the September cohort. The link for more information is in my bio.
