A new Icon Cancer Centre - United Kingdom is coming to Central London.

We’re proud to partner with St John & St Elizabeth Hospital to develop a purpose-built cancer centre at its St John’s Wood campus, enabling patients to access specialist, integrated cancer care in a familiar and trusted hospital environment.

Designed around patients’ needs, the centre will combine advanced precision radiotherapy with coordinated diagnostics, treatment and ongoing care in one trusted hospital environment.

“For patients navigating a cancer diagnosis, high-quality treatment in a trusted and familiar environment can make a meaningful difference,” said Icon Europe CEO Aldo Rolfo.

“Together, we are creating a centre that brings advanced radiotherapy, specialist expertise and continuity of care closer to home for many patients.”

Construction is expected to commence shortly, with the centre on track to treat its first patients in 2027.

To celebrate World Radiotherapy Awareness Day (WRAD) this week, we're recognising the people helping to expand access to radiotherapy and deliver exceptional cancer care closer to home.

Recently, Matthew Jennings was appointed Radiotherapy Physics Commissioning Lead for Icon Cancer Centre UK's expanding network. In this role, Matthew will help bring our new radiotherapy services online across the UK while connecting local teams with expertise from across Icon's global network.

Matthew’s no stranger to technology commissioning across our global network, having supported rollouts in Australia, Indonesia and now the UK. What these experiences have taught him most is that successful expansion is about more than technology. It's about collaboration, learning and adapting to the needs of every team and community.

From commissioning new technology at Icon Cancer Centre Bali to supporting the growth of Icon Cancer Centre UK's network, Matthew's experience reflects the expertise and teamwork that underpin modern cancer care.

As access to radiotherapy continues to grow across our UK network, professionals like Matthew play an important role in helping ensure more patients can benefit from the latest innovations in cancer treatment and care.

A cancer diagnosis can be life changing. A recurrence can bring an entirely new set of challenges.

When John Green’s colorectal cancer returned following earlier treatment, his consultant, Dr Prantik Das, referred him from Derby to Icon Cancer Centre London to access highly specialised stereotactic radiotherapy and complex re-irradiation treatment.

As John had previously received radiotherapy, his treatment required advanced planning, precise targeting and specialist expertise to safely deliver radiotherapy to an area that had already been treated. Despite understandable concerns about undergoing radiotherapy again, John felt reassured from the very beginning. “The team explained everything clearly and were able to put me at ease.”

Over five treatment appointments delivered across just 10 days, John completed treatment successfully and tolerated it extremely well. With organised transport provided by Icon, he was able to remain based at home and minimise disruption to family life. “Icon organised the transport, which was a great help. It eliminated any potential stress.”

John’s story highlights how access to specialist expertise, advanced radiotherapy technology and personalised support can help patients receive the right care, at the right time.

Three new cancer centres. More local care. Better access for patients.

We're excited to share that we’re delivering three new world-class Icon Cancer Centres in Bedlington, Newport and Reading.

The purpose-built centres will be referred to as Icon Cancer Centre North East, Icon Cancer Centre South Wales and Icon Cancer Centre Thames Valley and bring the Rutherford Health cancer care facilities back into operation, expanding oncology capacity in regions where demand continues to grow.

Patients will have access to integrated cancer care services including radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, imaging and consulting services.

Did you know radiotherapy is used in around half of all cancer treatments?

As part of plans for a new cancer centre in Leeds, we are looking to bring advanced radiotherapy technology closer to local patients.

This includes highly targeted treatments such as stereotactic radiotherapy – a highly precise form of radiation treatment that delivers focused high-doses of radiation to a tumour while minimising impact on surrounding healthy tissue, often reducing the number of treatment sessions.

Every patient is different, and treatment is always carefully planned by specialist teams.
