Oh wonderful mindfulness!
The term has been overused but the techniques have been underused and under appreciated.
* Bringing our awareness to how we eat; mindful eating is a nod to the traditional Japanese practice of Hara Hachi Bu. Eating slowly, savouring each bite, starting with smaller dishes and eating only until 80% full.
* Mindfulness body scan brings us back into our bodies. Connecting, acknowledging and accepting each part.
* Mindful movement: from dance, yoga, Tai Chi, Qi Gong. Being aware of how our body is moving creates intention, stillness and resets the nervous system by slowing down our breathing.
* Mindful breathing. From our first breath to our last. Our breath is our friend, is always with us and being able to control it can help us to regulate our nervous system, be more thoughtful and in control. According to Chinese medicine we only have a limited number of heartbeats in our lifetime so slowing the breath is the key to longevity.
* Mindful Meditation. Allowing everything to stop, intentionally. Being present, letting go of thoughts, accepting what is.
