When evaluating a treatment, I ask one simple question:
Will this help support healthy skin five years from now?

The future of aesthetic medicine is moving away from correction and toward regeneration.

Toward treatments that support:
• Collagen production
• Recovery
• Barrier integrity
• Skin quality

My philosophy has always been to work with biology rather than against it. Because great skin is not created in a single appointment.

It’s created through cumulative decisions over years.

Choose treatments that will support your future skin.

Menopause can be a strange time.

Many women come and see me in clinic believing they have suddenly started to see the signs of their skin ageing. But what they are often experiencing is a profound biological shift.

Oestrogen influences:
• Collagen production
• Barrier function
• Hydration
• Repair
• Elasticity

As oestrogen levels decline, the skin’s behaviour changes. This is precisely why a collagen based approach becomes so valuable.

Rather than chasing quick fixes, I encourage women to focus on preserving their skin structure. Because great skin after menopause is absolutely achievable. It just requires a different strategy.

Save this if you’re approaching or navigating menopause.

Lots of people build their skincare strategy upside down.

They focus on treatments first.
And skincare and lifestyle last.
But healthy skin is built exactly the opposite way.

The Healthy Skin Pyramid represents how I think about skin collagen clinically.
Sleep.
Nutrition.
SPF.
Skincare.
Then treatments.

Treatments can enhance outcomes.
But they cannot compensate for poor foundations.

Which level of the pyramid do you feel needs more attention?

If I were beginning my skin journey again at 25, this is what I would do.

I would spend less time searching for the perfect product.
And more time understanding the science of skin ageing.

I would focus on collagen preservation from the start.
Because once you understand the concept of collagen banking, maintaining great skin becomes a lot simpler.

Every choice becomes either a deposit or a withdrawal.
And over time, those decisions compound.

Healthy skin ageing is rarely dramatic.
It is usually the result of small daily decisions repeated consistently.

What collagen deposit will you make today?

Your forties are often when collagen conversations become more relevant.

Not because ageing suddenly starts.
But because skin changes become easier to see.

Fibroblast activity slows.
Recovery becomes less efficient.
Skin becomes less forgiving.

This is exactly why I encourage my patients to focus on collagen banking.
The earlier we begin protecting and preserving collagen, the greater the long-term return.

Healthy skin ageing is not about panic.
It is about preparation.

Start investing in your skin’s collagen today.

A good treatment plan is not measured by the number of treatments you book in for.
It is measured by how intelligently the treatment is done - is it done at the right settings? And then at the right frequency?

I am increasingly convinced that one of the most valuable skills in aesthetic medicine is restraint.

Understanding when to treat.
Understanding when to allow the skin to recover.
And understanding when to do nothing.

Every treatment decision should support long-term healthy skin collagen.
Not simply short-term results.
Sometimes restraint is the treatment.

When people think about ageing, they often think about wrinkles.

When I think about ageing clinically, I think about inflammation. Because inflammation influences almost every pathway associated with accelerated ageing.

It contributes to collagen degradation. It disrupts recovery. It increases oxidative stress. And it accelerates structural decline.

Inflammation itself is not the enemy. Chronic unresolved inflammation is.

One of the most effective strategies for ageing well is focused on reducing the inflammatory burden placed on the skin.

Think about inflammation differently.

People often ask me how I assess skin quality.

The answer is that I rarely begin by looking for wrinkles. Instead I look for:
• Elasticity
• Resilience
• Recovery
• Skin density
• Light reflection

These are often better indicators of structural skin health.

Healthy collagen creates healthy skin behaviour. And healthy skin behaviour creates better long-term outcomes.

Remember to focus on protecting your skin’s collagen.

Over the years I have found that one of the simplest ways to explain skin health is through the idea of collagen banking.

Think of collagen as an asset. Every day you either add to it or take from it.

SPF is a deposit.
Good sleep is a deposit.
Protein is a deposit.
Excess UV exposure is a withdrawal.
Chronic inflammation is a withdrawal.
Treatment overload is a withdrawal.

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s about creating more deposits than withdrawals over time. This framework sits at the heart of how I think about how our skin ages. Because great skin is not built through dramatic interventions. It is built through cumulative daily decisions.
