Introduction to Lacanian Psychoanalysis and Key Takeaways for Contemporary Practice

With Panos Bouzianis
📅 Tuesday 25th August 2026
🕙 10:00am – 11:30am
📍 Group Room 3, HQ Highbury Fields, 1 Highbury Cres, London N5 1RN

Lacanian psychoanalysis is one of the richest branches of psychoanalytic thought concerned with the unconscious. Jacques Lacan's lectures in 1950s France introduced concepts that reshaped how we understand the mind, offering a fruitful revisiting of Freud's original theories.

Central to Lacanian practice is an ethics that prioritises the subjectivity of the analysand — moving away from diagnosis or psychoeducation towards a deeper engagement with how each person constructs their own reality.

In this session, Panos will explore:

- How psychoanalytic symptoms form

- How we construct intrapersonal and interpersonal reality
- The central role language plays in this process

- Why these concepts remain vital for contemporary clinical practice

- Whether you're new to Lacan or looking to deepen your understanding, this session offers valuable insight for practitioners working with the unconscious in their everyday clinical work.

🎟Cost:
Free for HQ members (get in touch with Anamika)

FEELING HOT-HOT-HOT!!!

The heat can have many different effects not just raising the body's temperature. It also impacts us all differently, some more than others. ‘ Heatwaves are a “stress-test” for women’s cardiovascular systems, and hit them harder than men’

Dr Nighat Arif, NHS, specialises in women’s healthfuthermore, individuals on Psychotropic medications (including hypnotics, anxiolytics, and antipsychotics) can impair the body’s ability to regulate temperature, making it harder for it to respond appropriately to heat stress.

This is of concern particularly for individuals with schizophrenia or dementia. Dr Emma Lawrance said hospital admissions linked to poor mental health had increased by about 10% during heatwaves, compared with non-heatwave periods.

If you are finding yourself struggling with this year's ongoing heatwave, therapy can help.

Carl Rogers- an influential American psychologist, one of the founding fathers of humanistic psychology

A quote from his book “On becoming a person”the quote refers to how personal growth begins when we stop fighting reality and by accepting who we are at this very moment without rejection we can stop fighting ourselves and grow, allowing us to achieve who we are truly meant to be.

If the thought of speaking in a group, making small talk, or even answering the phone fills you with dread, you’re not alone. CBT and social anxiety are often talked about together because Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is widely recognised as one of the most effective treatments for this kind of anxiety. At NOSA CBT, we support individuals struggling with social anxiety by using structured, evidence-based CBT approaches.

What Is Social Anxiety?
Social anxiety, also known as social phobia, is a persistent fear of being judged, embarrassed, or rejected in social or performance-based situations. It can feel overwhelming and make even routine interactions seem impossible.
Some of the most common triggers include:
•Speaking in public
•Attending meetings at work
•Making phone calls or video calls
•Going to social events or parties
•Talking to people in authority
•Talking to strangers

People with social anxiety often worry excessively before a social event, experience intense discomfort during it, and replay it over and over afterwards, convinced they said or did something wrong.
Social anxiety can also affect how someone navigates education, career development, and personal milestones. For example, people might avoid applying for jobs that involve interviews, presentations, or teamwork, even if they’re qualified. This can result in missed opportunities, financial stress, and feelings of falling behind in life.

Health and wellbeing Through the lens of Reflexology - Hosted by Frederica Ernsting

July24th 1:30-3:00 at our Highbury fields location- 1 Highbury Cres, London N5 1RN

ABOUT THIS EVENT:

In the clinical setting, the focus is often on finding understanding of emotions and actions through the mind — helping clients shift towards greater wellbeing. But as multi-dimensional beings, there is real power in weaving elements from other holistic practices into that work, broadening both the practitioner’s and client’s experience.

This CPD morning explores how Reflexology can become one of those practices — offering simple, accessible self-help techniques that clients can use anywhere, at any time, to help ease an experience or bring about a meaningful shift.

Hosted by Frederica Ernsting — an experienced Reflexologist, Pilates teacher and somatic movement practitioner — this session draws on a rich blend of modalities including traditional Chinese medicine, meditation, energy work and Frequency, and explores how these deepen the connection between mind, body and client. Frederica will also share her own journey and insights, including her studies in Frequency since 2019 and how this has transformed her work with clients.

WHAT YOU’LL TAKE AWAY:

— A handful of practical Reflexology techniques to add to your therapeutic toolbox
— Insights into integrating holistic and somatic approaches into your client work
— An understanding of how Frequency work deepens the mind-body connection
— A sense of inspiration and possibility for your own practice and your clients’ journeys

WHO IS THIS FOR?

This event is open to all practitioners and wellness professionals including counsellors, psychotherapists, coaches, bodyworkers, yoga and movement teachers, and anyone curious about integrating holistic practices into their work.

🎟 FREE for current HQ Therapy members

Dear friends.

The next Creative & Soulful Supervision Morning will take place on Saturday, 16 May.

✨✨✨This month’s theme will be: In the Dark Forest of the Mother.

We will step into the maternal landscapes; into the places of early holding and absence, nourishment and wounding, love and loss, that continue to shape our client’s bodies, patterns of attachment, and the therapeutic relationship itself.

I’ll leave you with a reflection shared after our last session:

“The space allowed me to connect deeply with fellow practitioners and my client’s material in a profound and inspiring way”

✨✨✨See more details below --- You are warmly invited!
Muge.

- These monthly three-hour supervision mornings offer a soulful, creative, and relational container for counsellors and psychotherapists of any modality who long for supervision with depth.

HOW DO YOU LOVE SOMEONE? ❤️

Couples Counsellor & Psychotherapist Candy Newman Asks The Big Question.

So, how do you love someone? It seems like a very simple question, but when someone asks, ‘how do you know you love someone?’, it evokes an answer that will be totally unique to your own self, and the answer can be very complex.

Everyone is different when it comes to addressing their role in a close relationship, and therein lies a potential issue that could possibly cause problems for you and your partner if you both have different needs in a relationship.

Counsellor, psychotherapist, and parent coach Candy Newman, working in North London, looks at some of the factors behind the question ‘How do you love someone?’ and offers insights into how our own personal needs affect the way we behave in our close relationships with other people.

Candy also offers couples counselling as part of her practice.

Candy tells us about the causes and benefits for people seeking couples counselling, which addresses the question ‘How do you know if you really love someone?’.

She says, “All individuals have different family histories, different personal characteristics and different assumptions about how to love someone and what a loving relationship should be like.”

Candy goes on to say, “These differences impact relationships. You may find yourself reacting to your partner in ways that surprise you. You may begin to feel differently towards your partner than you did at the start of your relationship. Couples counselling is an opportunity to make sense of the complexities of being with another individual. It allows you and your partner to build trust and honest communication with each other.”
