Haven’t posted for a while but thought it was time.

Yesterday I cycled (swam) from Southampton General Hospital to St George’s. From where I started my medical career to where it will probably end. I didn’t do this for fun. The ride was in support of Andrew who has cycled to every hospital with a WellChild Nurse - a journey of over 3000 km in 23 days.

Yesterday was the final stage of this superhuman effort.

WellChild is a charity close to me. They have supported my service and the families / children I care for. Somehow I was also their Dr if the year in 2023.

A plea to all our patients - past, present and future.

The Leader of Wandsworth Council has reminded residents to take part in a public consultation on the future of children’s cancer services in south England. The consultation closes on 18 December.

Please can I ask for your support. NHSE are consulting on plans to move children’s cancer services from St George’s Hospital & The Royal Marsden to Guys and St Thomas’s Hospital. This will ignore the multidisciplinary skills, developed over 25 years, between St George’s and the Marsden to look after children with cancer and place them in a hospital with no expertise. Wider knock on effects will start the further down grading of services at St George’s including intensive care, surgery and other specialist services like respiratory, gastroenterology and so on.

St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the specialist hospital for children in South West London and Surrey.
