Last week I shared how the inner critic often begins as a survival strategy rather than a flaw. This week, I want to explore something many people never realise:
The critic often becomes strongest in the moments when you are growing.
It can spike when you slow down. It tightens when you try something new. It becomes sharp when you are visible. It gets louder when you are tired or stretched.
These reactions are not signs that you are going backwards. They are protective reflexes from a part of you that learned to stay safe by staying small, quiet or capable.
When you understand the fear underneath the critic, the tone begins to shift. It becomes less of a force that pushes you and more of a part of you that is waiting to be updated.
