Weight-Loss Injections & Hair Loss: Is There a Connection? 💉💇♀️
👉One of the most common questions I receive from patients is whether weight-loss injections cause hair loss.
The short answer: not directly.
Current clinical evidence shows that weight management medications do not directly damage hair follicles. However, many people do experience noticeable hair shedding during their weight-loss journey.
🔍 Why Does This Happen?
Rapid weight loss puts significant stress on your system. The root causes of this shedding usually include:
Severe calorie restriction
Nutritional deficiencies (especially lack of protein, iron, and zinc)
Physical stress from rapid body transformation.
These factors can trigger a temporary condition called Telogen Effluvium. This shifts a large number of your hair follicles prematurely into the shedding phase.
🌟 The Good News🌟
This type of hair loss is temporary and reversible. Once your body adapts and your nutritional needs are fully met, healthy hair growth typically resumes.
🩺 What Should You Do?
If you are using weight-loss medications and notice excessive shedding, do not ignore it. Protecting your hair is a vital part of your overall health journey.
A proper medical evaluation and nutritional assessment can pinpoint the exact cause and get your hair health back on track.
