Hard to believe: there is nothing wrong with anger. It is how we handle it that can trip us up.
If you are someone who turns your anger inward, it can become depression, anxiety, and harsh inner self-talk,rooted in self-blame.
Getting to know your anger is important. Ask yourself:
❓“Who was anger safe with during your childhood?
❓What is your anger protecting now?
❓What lies beneath your anger now? “
Often, anger is protecting a deeper emotion, such as hurt, fear, shame, or grief.
There are far more friendlier ways to manage anger, either turned inward or outward; so that it doesn’t become destructive to you and others.
We can learn to communicate and express both our anger and what lies beneath it in a way that is honest, respectful, and constructive with significant degree of compassion - without suppressing it or being consumed by it—it can become a powerful force for positive change.
Anger can help us set boundaries, speak our truth, and stand up for what matters, while still being expressed.
