Naz extends our deepest sympathies and outrage at the brutal murder of 28-year-old Mad Sandhu, a prominent Punjabi LGBT+ influencer, in Amritsar over the weekend.

Every time people say we have arrived and that there is LGTBQ+ equality, please remember the fragility of our human rights. To commit such a vile act of cowardice in one of India's holiest cities is devastating but let us be clear: we will not live in purdah, no matter how much some may wish to silence us. Naz calls on everyone to add their voice in demanding justice for Mad Sandhu and to stand firm for the fundamental right of living safely and openly.

Yesterday evening we stood together in solidarity at the vigil for Dr Jason Arday organised by Stand up to racism in Trafalgar Square. It was an evening of complex emotions. Whilst there was comfort and healing in being in community, the visceral rage persists, that we are here again.

The vile and deeply disturbing mockery continues online, gaslighting and retraumatising people showing a disturbing disregard for facts AND the dignity and grief of those mourning. Sadly none of this is new to our communities. Watching our elders work twice as hard to get half as far, recalling all the experiences of racist abuse is indeed... triggering.

Now it is time to stand together, firm and tall in the face of bigotry and call for justice for Dr Jason Arday and his family.

Naz sends our deepest condolences to Jason Arday's family for his tragic death. We are clear that the responsibility for his death lies with the unrelentless media campaign conducted by journalists, academics, global and local commentators who hounded and tormented Jason mercilessly.

As a Global Majority led charity serving Black and Brown and Latin communities, we demand a public inquiry and we expect justice. It is unacceptable and unjust that Black and Brown people have to endure this continued systematic violence in 2026. Each person of colour observing this weekend's events unfold will be acutely reminded of their own journeys navigating racism in this country. Enough is enough.

Over the last six months, the Black Women's Health Collective team, Professor Dr Jenny Douglas, Naz Medical Director Dr Vanessa Apea, and Naz Policy and Programmes Manager and BWHM Coordinator Christina Ganotakis, have travelled to Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland, and Wales to meet with Black folks working in and passionate about achieving equitable health outcomes for Black women across the life course.

"To the people who joined us in-person and online in Glasglow, Edinburgh, Dublin, Belfast, and Wales, we thank you for sharing your reflections, ideas, desires, and grief. We are excited to continue building the community of the Collective together, and to introduce the next iteration of the Manifesto, shaped by the voices of Black women across the four nations and Republic of Ireland.

We are pleased to share that we will continue building community, capacity, and influence together as we've secured some funding to host regional conferences in England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales in 2027. At these conferences, we’ll share the updated Manifesto and have workshops and seminars across Black women’s health research, programming, and wellness activities."

We're so pleased to have marked this year with at their office on 21 July with friends, colleagues, and loved ones from across the HIV sector.

Thank you to our speakers: and their Youth Committee who shared their reflections and experience growing up with HIV, and for their conversation on public health and the HIV response in a hostile sociopolitical climate, and Naz's Joyful Noise Choir for an absolutely incredible performance!

Naz is proud to present the fourth annual Zero HIV Stigma Day on 21 July 2026, under the theme “Fact Over Fear.” Over the last four years, the campaign has been situated within an alarming political shift to the right as people existing at the margins of our communities are being continually scapegoated to shift pressure away from government accountability.

We know that HIV stigma does not stand alone. Anti-migrant rhetoric, poor mental health, poverty, increase in hate crimes, anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, and a young generation unaware of HIV continue to create the opportune conditions that deter people from testing and staying on treatment.

For those fighting for equity and justice ending HIV stigma must continue to be part of the work. We want everyone to understand whether you are working to end racism, poverty, poor mental health, substance misuse, or the hostile migrant environment, that ending HIV stigma is part of your conversation and part of your activism.
