Is it just me or is anyone else tired or overwhelmed by the number of different marketing strategies being sold to therapists?

The private practice industry has become obsessed with marketing strategies, when what’s missing is - business diagnosis and NO ONE is talking about it!

Every week I see therapists trying another marketing strategy.

They optimise their Psychology Today or Counselling Directory profile.

They start a blog.

They post on Instagram

They learn SEO

They run ads

They create content

But they are still not getting clients

The problem isn’t that’s these strategies don’t work

The problem is that the therapists are being sold these strategies without actually understanding what problem they are trying to solve.

They are being taught strategy, before business diagnosis - which makes no sense!

Therapists don’t have a marketing problem, they have a diagnosis problem.

If you resonate and want to avoid buying into yet another marketing strategy, comment PROCESS below and we will send you our free client acquisition diagnosis worksheet.

The reason you’re not getting enough clients may not be what you think!

Most therapists think they have a marketing problem.

In reality, they usually have a client acquisition problem.

A problem that can ONLY be sustainably solved through business diagnosis and NOT from buying into yet another marketing strategy!

“I am not getting enough clients” is not a diagnosis.

Getting clients is a process.

If you don’t know your process, then you can’t identify the weak link.

And if you can’t identify the weak link, you can’t fix it consistently.

That means your practice always feels unpredictable.

The goal isn’t more marketing. The goal is understanding where your client acquisition process is breaking down.

Comment PROCESS and we will send you our free client acquisition diagnostic worksheet to get you started!

What’s your biggest challenge in private practice right now?

1️⃣ getting clients
2️⃣ knowing what to charge
3️⃣ admin and paperwork
4️⃣ making it or keeping it sustainable

A little recap of what’s been happening behind the scenes at The Contained Clinician ✨

The last few weeks have been full of reminders of why we created this community.

🌿 We hosted our Summer Picnic — a day filled with conversations, connection, laughter, and the kind of moments that remind us that being a counsellor doesn’t have to feel like a solo journey.

📚 We were part of the Prosper in Private Practice Summit - Helping counsellors with their private practice but also creating space for learning, reflection, and practical support.

💬 And the feedback we received afterwards reminded us how powerful it is when therapists have access to spaces that support not just their skills, but their confidence, wellbeing, and professional growth.

When we started The Contained Clinician, our vision was simple:
to create a space where counsellors could feel supported, developed, and connected throughout their careers.

And seeing that vision grow — with our wonderful members, our community, and the conversations happening every day — means so much.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of the journey so far 🤍

Thinking about coming to the Counsellor Picnic… but worried you won’t know anyone?”

We hear you 🌿

Walking into a room full of therapists can feel a little daunting — especially when so much of our work involves sitting behind a screen or working independently.

But here’s something we want you to know…

You won’t be the only one arriving not knowing anyone.

Already, we have counsellors joining us who aren’t members of The Contained Clinician, who haven’t met anyone else attending, and who are coming along simply because they want to connect with other people who understand this profession.

And honestly? That’s exactly why we created this.

The Counsellor Picnic is a chance to step away from the isolation that private practice and counselling training can sometimes bring.

No networking pressure.
No awkward introductions.
No need to arrive already knowing people.

Just an opportunity to:

🌿 meet other counsellors and therapists
🌿 share conversations about the work we do
🌿 connect with people who understand this profession
🌿 spend time in a relaxed, supportive environment

Whether you’re a trainee, newly qualified, or have years of experience — you’re welcome.

We spend our days asking thoughtful questions.

Exploring.
Listening.
Creating safe spaces.

Then someone asks:

“So tell us a little about yourself…”

And suddenly:

🧍‍♀️ “...”

😂

That’s why we always include conversation starters at our events.

Because connection doesn’t have to feel awkward.

Our Counsellor Picnic is about creating an easy, relaxed space for therapists to meet other therapists.

✨ “It truly feels like a community that I’d love to continue being a part of.”

There are lots of places therapists can access CPD.

Lots of places to attend supervision.

Lots of places to learn.

What we’re often hearing from therapists, however, is that what they’re really looking for is connection.

A place where they feel supported.

A place where they can think alongside others.

A place where they don’t have to hold everything alone.

This review from one of our members really captures what we’re trying to create at The Contained Clinician.

As we head into a busy few weeks with our Counsellor Picnic and the Prosper in Private Practice Summit, we’re reminded that whilst these opportunities look different on the surface, they’re all rooted in the same belief:

🌿 Therapists thrive when they have spaces to connect, reflect, learn and grow together.

What helps you feel connected to the profession?

08/06/2026

Therapy can be a surprisingly lonely profession.

We spend our days sitting with other people’s stories.

Holding space.
Listening deeply.
Supporting others through some of life’s most difficult moments.

Yet many therapists can go days or even weeks without having meaningful conversations with colleagues who truly understand the work.

That’s one of the reasons we created our Counsellor Picnic 🌿

A space to network

Gain professional development.

AND have the community that is paramount to our survival in the private practice world

And because sometimes it’s simply nice to spend time with people who understand what it’s like to do this work.

No presentations.
No pressure.

Just good conversation, connection and community.

Whether you’re a trainee counsellor, newly qualified or experienced practitioner, we’d love to see you there.

Things that often aren’t spoken about after qualifying as a therapist

After qualifying, many therapists expect to feel:

• more confident
• more settled
• more certain in their work

But often, the reality is more nuanced.

Many therapists quietly experience:

• isolation in private practice
• imposter feelings returning
• clinical stagnation
• difficulty finding genuinely reflective spaces

And because everyone else appears to be coping, it can feel difficult to talk about.

At The Contained Clinician, we believe ongoing professional development should feel:

🌿 reflective
🌿 engaging
🌿 supportive
🌿 clinically stimulating

And not just like another requirement to meet.

We currently have a few spaces available for qualified therapists.

Can you say you are getting everything you need from your supervison right now?

We hear so many stories from people with great supervisors but that feel like something is missing or they can’t bring all of themselves or their practice to the sessions.

This is where TCC comes in to supplement your core supervision. Rather than replace it.

If you have been thinking about joining and want to know more comment “JOIN” below or send us a dm and we will get in touch.
