Water, water everywhere.. a recent blog post.
Water water everywhere and lots of it to drink.
Everyone knows that you are supposed to drink water to stay healthy and alive.
Your body uses water in all of its cells to do things like regulate your temperature and help with important bodily functions.
Because your body loses water through vital functions like breathing, sweating and digestion it’s important to keep it hydrated. You would die of thirst before you starve to death and on average we are supposed to drink a couple of litres a day.
However, if you drink more than 2 litres an hour, every hour, is not good for you and could cause harm, like everything excessive consumption is not recommended.
You can of course get water from other things, like food and beverages; some foods are very high in water like cucumber, tomatoes, carrots and celery to name just a few. Natural whole foods have the highest water content with most fruit and vegetables containing 80 to 98%.
Fizzy drinks in my opinion are an incredible bad way to get hydration and it’s not just the ‘full-fat’ versions diet fizzy drinks can also have extremely harmful effects.
All the additives, these include sugar and chemical sweeteners, make a can of pop a lethal concoction that can only do your body harm.
Even carbonation, so that includes fizzy water, leeches the calcium from your bones making them weaker – this is especially bad for women who could suffer from brittle bones later in life.
I will not go into all the side effects but have included a link to some more info at the end of this blog.
A very good way to keep hydrated is drinking my infusions, made preferably with filtered water.
Not only are you getting the goodness from the herbs etc they taste good and you are safe in the knowledge that what you are consuming is helping you on many levels.
In the UK we are very lucky that we in general have very good drinking water from the tap. However, you can still get nasties in that water.
The ones I want to avoid are fluoride, arsenic, heavy metals, other people’s pharmaceuticals and hormones.
To this effect I only drink water that has been filtered, my filter of choice is a Berkey water filter. Its portable and so I can take it with me if I am going to stay for a while at my daughter’s for example.
