It’s ME / CFS Awareness Week this week.

We see a large number of patients with this condition along with Fibromyalgia, Post Viral Syndromes and Long COVID using primarily the Perrin Technique (a combination of osteopathic techniques aimed to improve lymphatic drainage and improve autonomic nervous system regulation.

There’s lots of information on our website: www.harperroadosteopaths.co.uk

Caroline (an Advanced Perrin Practitioner) and myself (a practitioner for the last 12 years) discuss here how we got interested in treating this patient group, and the challenges and rewards of doing so.

Hopefully this will give you an insight into who we are and why we do what we do….mainly because we are passionate about it.

It’s our first video, we haven’t really worked out how to edit bits out, so no judgements please!!

It’s ME Awareness week this week, so we decided to record a conversation between two of our Perrin Technique practitioners, Caroline Lovett and Victoria Diamond, about what drove them towards wanting to help people suffering from this terrible condition. It’s our first attempt at a video revealing who we are as practitioners, so be kind!! What I hope comes across is how passionate we are about tackling this incredibly complex health puzzle.

Wise words from MD Groysman

You crashed.

Here is what to do in the next 72 hours.

Post-exertional malaise follows a pattern. The activity happened yesterday, or two days ago. Now your body is paying the debt. This protocol is not a cure. It is damage control that reduces the depth and duration of the crash.

Phase 1: First 24 hours.

Horizontal rest. Not couch rest. Horizontal. Legs level with heart. Minimize all sensory input. No screens if possible, no conversations requiring effort, no decisions. Salt and electrolytes, sipped slowly. The goal is not recovery. The goal is stopping the energy hemorrhage.

Phase 2: Hours 24-72.

Supine activity. You can talk. You can listen to something. You can eat sitting up briefly. No walking beyond the bathroom. No standing tasks. Your mitochondria are attempting to rebuild ATP stores that were catastrophically depleted. Every upright minute taxes them further.

The crash is not random punishment. It is a predictable biological event with a predictable recovery arc. Timing matters more than willpower.

This really explains the experience of ME/CFS./Long. covid. If you know anyone recovering from this condition we highly recommend watching this in order to gain a deeper understanding of how quality of life can be so dramatically diminished and how you csn support them.
We help people manage their condition with a mixture of lymphatic drainage, Perrin Technique, and advice on pacing and management.
