As a young girl, I always felt happiest near the water. On the Isles of Scilly, where we spent our summer holidays, I loved watching the waves from the rocks, sailing between the islands, the tide as it flooded in over the sand flats. Memories of skimming stones and catching tadpoles in our local chalk stream, canoeing on a peaceful stretch of The Thames on a summer’s evening and Sunday walks along the Grand Union, the canal’s reflection of the sky shattering as narrow boats chugged by.
The sight and sounds that accompany any expanse of water, are the key components of some my most precious childhood memories.
There’s a reason why water is often features in the landscape that surrounds temples, monuments and memorials. What I didn’t understand then, but I know now, is how water can slow down our breath, soften tension in our body and bring clarity to our mind.
Don’t take my word for it … .. discover the healing meditative power of water for yourself.
