Harold White Funeral Directors

Harold White Funeral Directors Family funeral directors proudly serving the communities of East London and Essex since 1888.

Harold White Funeral Directors is an independent family business that has been supporting families in the East London and Essex communities since 1888. For over 130 years, our experienced and compassionate team have been arranging many different types of funeral from our three funeral homes in South Chingford, Buckhurst Hill and Walthamstow. We continue to provide the stunning horse-drawn funerals

that originally earned our reputation but today we can also offer alternative celebrations, direct cremations and eco-funerals alongside our traditional services. We welcome all faiths and no matter what your beliefs are, we can guide you through the various ways to personalise a service and create a truly meaningful tribute for your loved one. From sustainable coffins and suitable celebrants to vehicle options and beautiful flowers (and much more), we can help organise everything you need. Transparency and clarity are a priority for Harold White and we will do everything we can to make the process of arranging a funeral as easy as possible. As well as explaining your options and prices in a way that is easy to understand, our team will support you and your family every step of the way. Our team has been getting out and about in Walthamstow recently, visiting some of the brilliant local organisations and businesses that make this community so special. This week that included a visit to the Waltham Forest Community Hub, a fantastic charity supporting local residents of all ages, and St Mary's Church in Walthamstow Village, one of East London's most historic buildings with almost 900 years of community life behind it. It's always great to have a cuppa, make new connections and tell people what we do. More visits to come!

Offering genuine reassurance when someone feels most vulnerable is at the very core of what we do. Thank you for placing such trust in Tracy throughout.

A recent service at Our Lady of the Rosary and St Patrick in Walthamstow. Built in 1908, the church has a really striking design — its Romanesque style and distinctive brick exterior set it apart from many of the churches we visit. The summer sunshine made for a lovely backdrop to a very personal service.

Great to have attended the Friends of Chingford Mount Cemetery café last Friday. The talk on Victorian mourning customs was really interesting — particularly the tradition of funeral biscuits, which were baked by specialist confectioners and sometimes sent to mourners as a formal invitation to the service. Tom's homemade version was a lovely touch. A great community group doing something special each month.

Recently we arranged a service at All Saints Church in Woodford Wells, a venue which holds a special place for us. This Grade II listed building has been a place of worship since 1874 and the interior never fails to create a beautiful setting for a memorable farewell. We were blessed with blue skies and sunshine on the day, and it was a particularly personal occasion for one of our team, saying goodbye to a family friend.

Harold White has become a member of the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD), adding to the SAIF membership that we have held for many years.

Caring for families properly, and being accountable for how we do it, has always mattered to us. Recent headlines may have shaken some people's faith in the funeral profession, but our determination to be worthy of that trust has been there from the very start. Membership of the NAFD is a further step in the right direction: giving families every reason to feel confident in the people caring for their loved one.

Both organisations set clear standards for the way a funeral home must operate, and both inspect their members to make sure those standards are being met. Being answerable to two respected organisations, each entirely independent of us, is exactly the kind of reassurance every family deserves.

Harold White is now an NAFD member, alongside SAIF — two independent organisations holding us to account, for families who deserve complete confidence.

We recently arranged our first funeral at the newly opened Sewardstone Park Cemetery & Crematorium - a beautiful setting made even more so by the sunshine on the day. What made this service extra special was the horse-drawn carriage provided by the fantastic team at Sonny Hillier Horse Drawn Carriages. It's always a privilege to see this East London tradition in action, and Sonny's horses never fail to set the right tone for the day.
