Introductory Course in Jungian Process & Experiential Group (JPEG) Series - 'Once Upon a Wound: Exploring Fairy Tales as Psychic and Symbolic Maps'.

Our JPEG returns in September for another year of ongoing exploration. This time through fairy tales, read as symbolic narratives of psychological development.

Across ten Saturdays we'll work with European and non-European tales and their interpretations, drawing on Jung, Von Franz, Hillman and Kalsched alongside relational thinkers like Winnicott, Benjamin and Bromberg, and cultural writers including Angela Carter, Marina Warner and Judith Butler. Attachment, trauma, recognition, separation, gender and transformation – the themes the stories dramatise, illustrated through various readings and media.

As one past participant put it: "JPEG is always challenging, thought-provoking and holds up a mirror to oneself. It never follows a preordained course but instead moves in uncharted areas."

* 10 Saturdays, September 2026 – June 2027, 2–5pm
* Facilitated by Barbara March and Ali Zarbafi
* Open to those who've completed the Foundations Course, previous JPEG participants, current SAP trainees, or an equivalent introductory course
* Applications close 30 September 2026

It was a pleasure to welcome Master's and PhD students from the Department of Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies at the University of Essex to the Society of Analytical Psychology on Wednesday, 27 May.

The group was accompanied by Prof. Roderick Main, and we were delighted to share insights into our work and the field of analytical psychology.

Our connection with the University spans many years, and this annual visit is always a highlight of the calendar. We value the opportunity to meet students at this stage of their academic journey and to continue strengthening this longstanding partnership.

Many thanks to everyone who visited usβ€”we hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did.
