Want fewer spikes and more in‑range numbers? Start with what you can add, not what you need to remove...

Wholegrains, pulses and fibre‑rich veggies are some of the most reliable tools for creating steadier blood sugars — they slow digestion, smooth the spike and give your insulin time to kick in 🙏

When your meals support stability, everything becomes easier: dosing, timing, confidence, decision‑making. This is how you move from guessing to feeling genuinely in control 🙂💪

Meal sequencing: trend or genuinely helpful? 🤔🍽️

The order you eat your food can make a difference...

Research (mainly in people with type 2 diabetes) suggests that eating fibre and protein before carbohydrates may reduce the blood sugar spike after a meal. This is thought to be due to slower gastric emptying and a greater release of gut hormones that help regulate glucose.

For those with type 1 diabetes, meal sequencing isn't a replacement for insulin dosing—but it can be another tool in the toolbox.

💡 One situation where it can be helpful:

When eating out, it's often difficult to pre-bolus because you don't know exactly when your food will arrive.

Instead, you could:
• Wait until your meal arrives
• Bolus
• Start with the vegetables, salad and protein
• Then move on to the carbohydrates

This gives your insulin a little more time to start working before the carbs hit.

Will it completely prevent a spike? No.

Will it work for every meal or every person? Also no.

But for some meals, it can help smooth things out.

Remember: diabetes management is rarely about one "magic hack"—it's about finding small strategies that work for you.

👇 Have you ever tried meal sequencing? Did you notice any difference?
