The Breathe Academy

The Breathe Academy The Breathe Academy is a place for people to learn how to live a happy, joyful life through mindful practice and meditation.

My lifelong relationship with meditation began in my childhood. I grew up experiencing meditation thanks to my very alternative dad who first introduced it to me when I was around 11. I then re-discovered it whilst travelling around South East Asia at 18, and loved how familiar it felt for me to be in the quiet of meditation. Fast forward 12 years and life events led me to participate in a 10 day

silent Vipassana meditation retreat which enabled me to experience it more deeply and integrate it into my life. An encounter with Ruby Wax at the launch of her mindfulness book ‘Sane New World’ in 2013 had such an impact that it immediately became clear that mindfulness and meditation was something I now wanted to share with others. Since becoming a mum to 2 very lively girls and having my own struggles with coming to terms with my new ‘mum’ status, I am passionate about helping parents identify ways to bring mindful awareness into the home. In particular, allowing them to experience the enjoyment of parenting and providing tools to bring our children up equipped to deal with the increasing demands of 21st-century living. I am able to experience for myself the positive impact mindfulness can have on family life, and balancing life's stresses with my own regular meditation practice and the use of mindful techniques (on most days!)

I am an accredited mindfulness coach, having been trained at London Meditation in Camden www.london-meditation.co.uk on the MATT pathway. This is accredited by the leading professional body Association for Coaching as the Advanced Diploma in (Mindfulness) Coach Training (AADC). The training is recognised by the UK Mindfulness Teacher Trainer Network and will be assessed against the Mindfulness-based Intervention Teaching Assessment Criteria (MBI:TAC) as developed by the CFM Bangor University. I feel extremely blessed to be supporting others in discovering the benefits of living a more mindful life.

Every Sunday I write something small and honest.

A reflection, a practice, a recommendation, sometimes just a thought that has been sitting with me that week.

It is not polished or perfect - it is simply a moment of pause, sent straight to your inbox, for you to read whenever it suits you.

If you would like a little more stillness woven into your week, the ‘And Breathe’ newsletter is a gentle place to start.

You will find the sign up link in my bio.

I would love for you to be part of it.

We often think rest has to look a certain way.

A holiday. A spa day. Somewhere far away from ordinary life.

But the truth is, rest can live in ten minutes.

In a chair you already own, or in a moment you give yourself permission to take.

That is exactly what my free Rest and Reset meditation offers.

Ten quiet minutes to step away from the noise, settle your breath and come back to yourself a little more resourced, for whatever the rest of your day holds.

It costs nothing and asks very little of you.

You will find it waiting in the link in my bio 💕

That is Vesuvius in the distance.

I sat here for a long time looking at it, thinking about how something so vast and so ancient can sit so quietly on the horizon, and ask absolutely nothing of you.

There is something in that I keep coming back to.

We spend so much of our lives in motion.

Moving towards things, away from things, through things - but rarely just sitting with what is simply here.

This is what I try to bring into my practice and into the work I do with others.

Not a forced stillness and not an emptied mind. Just a growing capacity to be where you actually are, even for a few minutes.

Every Sunday I write about this in the ‘And Breathe’ newsletter.

It contains reflections, simple practices and guided meditations to help you find a little more of that quality in your ordinary days.

You will find the sign up link in my bio - I would love for you to be part of it.

I want to share something with you that I picked up in a yoga class recently…

And have been using ever since.

It's called Triangle Breathing, and it is wonderfully simple:

-Breathe in through your nose for a count of 4
-Hold for a count of 4
-Breathe out through your nose for a count of 4
-Repeat 4 times (or as many as you need)

You can do this sitting, standing, lying down, even driving.

It settles the heart and mind remarkably quickly, and there is a real psychological reason why: something called modulation, which calms an overloaded nervous system.

I share little practices like this every week in my ‘And Breathe’ newsletter, along with reflections, recommendations and whatever else feels useful that week.

It's a small, gentle thing that lands in your inbox every Sunday.

If that sounds like something you would enjoy, you can sign up here: https://www.thebreatheacademy.co.uk/newsletter

I would love for you to be part of it.

This is what it looks like to actually stop.

Not scrolling, not planning anything…and definitely not running through the list in your head.

Just sitting, breathing and arriving in your own body for a few minutes.

I know how hard that is when life is full.

I know the guilt that can come with stillness, the sense that you should be doing something more useful with your time.

But here is what 10 years of practice has taught me: the pause is not time wasted - it's how we resource ourselves to show up better for everything, and everyone else.

If you've been meaning to find a little more of this, but you aren't sure where to start, I've created a free Rest and Reset meditation for exactly that.

It's ten minutes, just for you. No experience is needed, just a willingness to give yourself a moment 💕

It is completely free and it is waiting for you on my website.

I hope it brings you a little stillness today.

I stood here for longer than I probably needed to.

There was something about the way the road narrowed and then opened out to the sea - like a reminder that things do open up again, even when life feels tight and compressed and full.

That quality of noticing (really seeing what is in front of you, rather than moving through it) is something regular mindfulness practice gives you gradually and quietly over time.

You don't need to be standing on a cliffside in Italy for it.

You just need a few minutes, a willingness to pause and somewhere to start.

My free Rest and Reset meditation is that starting point.

Just 10 minutes to step away from the noise and come back to yourself, wherever you are.

It's completely free and it's waiting for you here: https://thebreatheacademy.us15.list-manage.com/subscribe?u=67c59f83a13494ff6e08aefad&id=8272f82ad7&fbclid=PARlRTSASAJvlleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBzcnRjBmFwcF9pZA8xMjQwMjQ1NzQyODc0MTQAAae9SQ4G6-PZS-6s8UFV2Z9DPKd_XsNU7SRu_gc1GUXlBAxymyo4dKeCkDVRLw_aem_rzPLvEQxa0l3N66JOgyZ2g&fbclid=IwY2xjawSl7h9leHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFTWFNFZEdaR0xSaXRuR29tc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHgoED1nlcWVBz22HEDKwixez8lu3IISDKjDwFF57C7YOla8PDxOURwlksTGX_aem_5GHOWN_roqTLU42TljCShQ

A week away has a way of reminding you what actually matters 💕

It’s not..
• the to-do list
• the inbox
• the thing you were anxious about before you left, that somehow feels smaller now

It’s just this - being somewhere, noticing it, letting it in.

Rome reminded me about the art of actually stopping, and if any of it resonates, my free Rest and Reset meditation is waiting for you in the link below:

https://tinyurl.com/5j83mmtk

It’s ten calm minutes.
It’s completely free.
It’s yours to keep.
